About the Team & the Position
The Digital Division enables the delivery of AEMOs obligations through technology and improves outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders. Digital provides services to internal AEMO business units employees contractors subsidiaries such as AEMO Services external government bodies and market participants.
The Energy Markets & Corporate Digital Systems (EM & CDS) team within the Digtal will provide ongoing maintenance and operational support and deliver software development services for AEMOs critical energy and gas market systems as well as corporate and enterprise business applications.
As a member of the EM&CDS Leadership Team the incumbent is responsible for 24/7/365 operations within agreed SLAs of the Digital application and systems that support key AEMO functions
Position Responsibilities
- Ensuring all IT systems and applications that support the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and WA Gas Systems Information (GSI) business capabilities operate within agreed service level agreements. Ensure these systems are highly available secure and stable. This includes the implementation of all critical maintenance tasks and projects.
- Drive the creation and establishment of efficient ways of working to ensure the is cost effective efficient and scalable delivery. Leverage external partners where necessary.
- Assist the GM Energy Market and Corporate Digital Solutions to drive change promote cross-departmental activities. Champion corporate roll-outs/programs and provide input into organisational wide strategic planning forums.
- Provision of strategic advice and direction to Management on AEMOs Technology functions covering operational matters strategies and efficiencies and collaborate with other Group Managers to build a strong and effective leadership team.
- Owns and manages the applications environment framework tools and processes for the systems managed by the teams in this department.
- Responsible for the delivery of new functionality to the systems managed by this team and drive seamless 24/7 operational support to all systems managed by this partnership with the Digital Leadership Team strive towards continuous and cost efficient ways of working.

All Information Technology applications and systems tools and utilities that are utilised to perform critical and supporting business functionality for the WA division that include though are not limited to:
- Prudentials and Settlements
- Real Time Market Submissions
- Registrations
- Reserve Capacity Mechanism
- WA Gas Bulletin Board (GBB)
Position Requirements
Skills & Experience:
- Significant experience in a technology team leadership capacity managing multiple large cross-functional operational teams or projects and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
- Strong experience in the energy industry or similarly highly regulated industry experience relevant to fit for purpose information technology and data management.
- Good knowledge of the practices and principles associated with the operation of gas and electricity markets within Australia and internationally
- Ability to strategically negotiate with and manage key third party outsourced providers and garner their respect.
- Strong experience in the development of applications solutions to achieve desired business out comes. Experience in leading high performing technology teams.
- Experience in transforming ways of working to be aligned with product-based team models with high level commercial acumen combined with strong communication and financial modelling skills.
- Understanding of internal decision making and the decision making that occurs among vendors including vendor motivations strategic plans and market challenges. Strong dispute resolution and mediation skills to handle issue escalation
Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to attain and maintain an appropriate level of national security clearance.
Education/ professional Certifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in Computing and IT Communications/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
