Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is seeking a Technology Support Specialist. This role provides comprehensive Tier I and Tier II technical support services primarily at the Bon Air correctional facility but also across DJJ locations throughout the Commonwealth. This role is responsible for implementing troubleshooting repairing and updating hardware and software for mission-critical DJJ operations including Residential Facilities Security Medical and Education units. The specialist acts as a key liaison between the DJJ Service Desk and end users delivering technical assistance and resolving complex IT issues. Additionally this position serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the agencys inventory system and plays a vital role in staff training initiatives to promote effective use of DJJ applications and technologies.

Position will require working in a secure residential program and must be able to perform with minimal direct supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of various windows operating systems such as Win Operating Systems and associated products to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with network devices desktop hardware and various operating systems and associated software in a LAN / standalone environment.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office management principles and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Advance knowledge of learning software programs.
  • Ability to develop and conduct training.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.

Additional Considerations

  • A combination of service desk support and experience delivering training is highly desirable.
