The Department of Criminal Justice Services is seeking a collaborative and innovative team player to serve as a full-time Human Resource Generalist in Richmond Virginia. This position will provide human resource support throughout the agency. Public service offers the opportunity to do important rewarding work while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. What you will do:
Provide consultation to management employees and applicants.
Assist with the recruitment functions for the agency including helping hiring managers throughout the process.
Administer workers compensation short-term and long-term disability and related benefits.
Assist with providing benefits assistance on healthcare and optional benefits programs.
Conduct new employee orientations.
Assist with the performance management process.
Payroll processing.
Leave coordination.
Assist with the coordination of special programs to include employee recognition and service awards and CommonHealth.
Assist with other HR related areas as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of principles and practices of leave payroll benefits administration and a basic understanding of other human resource management areas.
Knowledge and understanding of State policies and procedures and ability to interpret and apply this knowledge to specific situations.
Experience with recruitment/selection.
Knowledge and experience with HRIS systems to include the Virginia Recruitment Management System and a time attendance and leave system.
Ability to conduct new employee orientation.
Knowledge of the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program and Family Medical leave.
Experience administering Employee Recognition and/or Service Awards programs.
Experience tracking data and updating reports.
Experience managing confidential information as it relates to personal data.
Good working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office Software.
Ability to think strategically and cross culturally and independently implement new initiatives and projects.
Ability to articulate both orally and in written form clear and concise program objectives and goals and summarize achievements of programs in reports and other documents as requested.
Documented experience working as an active contributing team member as well as an independent and self-motivated employee.
Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines handle multiple assignments changing priorities and ensure timeliness and quality of completed assignments.

Additional Considerations

Training and experience in Human Resources Payroll Public or Business Administration or a related field.
Professional HR Certification.

Special Instructions

Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work. The candidate selected for the position must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and complete and submit a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) which will be entered into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization. The individual may also be responsible for submitting an annual Statement of Personal Economic addition the selected candidate who begins original employment or re-employment in this position must serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment. The starting salary range is $63500 to $68000 plus the states benefits package.
