Primary Purpose:
The basic function of this position is to assist and support the administration in maintaining a positive safe and effective learning environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Associate degree or higher; or
- Minimum of forty eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university;
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) and passed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test; and
- Be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with youth and adults
- Ability to be flexible
- Self-motivated
- Be knowledgeable or be willing to receive training in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Techniques
- Be able to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Experience:
One year experience working with children (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in student supervision throughout the school day.
- Assist in building relationships with students to create a positive school culture.
- Monitor students in the gym cafeteria and hallways throughout the school day including morning and afternoon dismissal times.
- Monitor students during school class changes.
- Escort specific students to needed areas such as office areas guidance and to class as needed.
- Cover in classrooms in the event that a substitute teacher is not available to sub for an absent teacher.
- Perform bus duty car line duty gym duty lunch duty lunch detention and ISS when needed throughout the school day.
- Maintains communication via portable radios with the administration office.
- Inspects restrooms to ensure students are not loitering or damaging facilities. (Assistance will be requested of person of the opposite sex restroom inspections).
- Takes appropriate action to defuse any actions taken by students to initiate a confrontation.
- Report tardies truancies and other related incidents to the appropriate school administrator.
- Assist in the identification and prevention of gang activities.
- Direct authorized visitors to their proper destination on campus.
- Perform other job-related duties as may be by the campus principal or designee.

Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather) moderate exposure to noise. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations.
