Hhepa Wellington is a thriving community for people with intellectual disabilities. As a Support Worker you will play a vital role in supporting people with intellectual disabilities to reach their potential in finding and following their needs and dreams fostering connections within the community facilitating personal growth and helping them find meaningful activities.

The tasks can include helping people we support with activities they enjoy public transportation finances and meal preparation. Depending on the specific work environment Support Workers may also assist with individual needs such as shopping cleaning showering and medication administration.

We believe in nurturing the aspirations and development of our staff and are on the lookout for compassionate creative and dedicated Support Workers who are motivated to develop a career pathway within the intellectual disability sector.

We have a variety of part-time and casual roles available.

We are looking for people who are resilient solution-focused naturally energetic have a passion for giving things a go and have a genuine interest in supporting people to achieve goals and learn new skills and develop community connections.

No prior experience in the health and disability sector is necessary but a strong desire to pursue a career as a Support Worker with a positive attitude is highly valued. Full training and orientation will be provided to individuals who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

The ideal person for this role will:

  • be able to work independently.
  • display empathy and respect and enable people to achieve their goals.
  • demonstrate resilience in managing difficult situations.
  • be able to work in partnership with the people we support and their whanau.
  • be able to maximize the independence of our people whilst encouraging choice initiative and participation in activities.
  • communicate clearly and appropriately with a range of people.
  • be trustworthy have high ethical standards and be able to respect confidentiality and privacy.
  • have a mature attitude and good interpersonal skills; this includes being practical and down to earth about the nature of the role and being able to work with people who may have high support needs and challenging behaviour.
  • have a full NZ Drivers Licence.
