Legal Counsel - 6 Month Role with Local Government (Western Sydney)
Are you a motivated Legal Counsel looking for your next challenge ACM is partnering with a local government division in Western Sydney to find a talented lawyer for a 6-month contract with the potential for extension.
In this dynamic role youll provide legal services in compliance transactional (commercial contracts) contract management and dispute resolution matters. Youll collaborate with colleagues across diverse fields making a real impact on the Councils strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice on compliance and transactional matters.
- Manage and resolve contractual disputes.
- Negotiate effectively to protect Councils interests.
- Offer high-level professional judgment on when to engage external legal support.
- Explain complex legal concepts in plain English for non-legal colleagues.
To succeed in this role you will need:
- Admission as a lawyer in NSW with a current practising certificate.
- At least 2 years of experience in legal practice (transactional or compliance).
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to read between the lines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work autonomously and within short time frames without compromising accuracy.
- Flexibility and a pragmatic commercial mind set.
Desirable Attributes:
- A distinction average or higher in your law degree.
Experience with local government tendering legislation or procurement.
Knowledge of local government operations and enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Expertise in areas like waste management construction ICT planning and environmental law.
Start Date: 30th September 2024
Contract Duration: 6 months (with potential for extension)
