Kafka Administrator – Middleware & Monitoring

Position Description:

Location: Montreal
Bilingual: French/English is an asset

We are seeking an experienced Kafka Administrator to manage support and optimize our enterprise messaging platforms. This role focuses primarily on Apache Kafka administration and monitoring with IBM MQ as a secondary skill. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in day-to-day operations performance tuning and ensuring security and reliability of messaging environments.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities
Administer configure and maintain Apache Kafka clusters (brokers topics partitions schema registry).
Perform daily operational tasks such as provisioning scaling patching and upgrading Kafka environments.
Monitor health performance and capacity of messaging systems using observability tools (Prometheus Grafana Dynatrace etc.).
Troubleshoot issues in development test and production environments including incident response and root cause analysis.
Apply and maintain security best practices (authentication authorization encryption certificates).
Automate repetitive operational tasks (using Ansible Shell or Python scripting).
Support integration of Kafka with enterprise applications and ensure high availability.
Maintain clear operational documentation runbooks and knowledge articles.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide timely support during incidents.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

5 years administering enterprise messaging systems.
Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka administration (cluster setup monitoring performance tuning troubleshooting).
Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus Grafana Dynatrace ELK or Splunk.
IBM MQ administration experience is an asset.
Familiarity with Linux system administration networking concepts and high-availability configurations.
Scripting ability in Shell Python or Ansible for automation.
Knowledge of containerized environments (Docker Kubernetes) is an asset.
Nice-to-Have
Experience with Confluent Kafka (cloud or on-prem).
Understanding of event-driven architecture concepts.
Kafka or IBM MQ certifications.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Clear communication and collaboration abilities.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
