Job Description

Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Part-Time (6.75 hpd.) Education Assistant - Campus Monitor at A3 High School.

Position Summary

This position provides supervision and assistance to students while maintaining student discipline in various campus settings and on District and surrounding addition this position may perform a variety of tasks in support of and preparation for the educational process. The position may facilitate assist with the smooth operation of the educational program in the school office or in one or more classes by attending to details which assists the administration teacher and or student(s).

Essential Functions

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Patrols campus grounds buildings and surrounding neighborhood ensuring safety and security of students on school grounds.
  • Supervises students and maintains discipline in all campus settings ensuring safety and security at all times.
  • Supervises a variety of student activities including cafeteria bus loading and unloading field trips hallways and other common areas where students gather.
  • Monitors nearby neighborhood and businesses to ensure student safety.
  • Works with staff and assists students with managing behaviors de-escalation and resolving conflicts.
  • Escorts students to and from classrooms as needed.
  • Documents behavior incidents and files reports in timely manner.
  • Interacts with residents and business owners near campus to address student off campus behavior and issues.
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints from staff parents and community members regarding student behaviors.
  • Contacts and communicates with parents regarding student behaviors and issues.
  • Participates effectively at required meetings with teacher and other support staff using appropriate social skills problem solving and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Under direction of a licensed teacher may provide supplemental practice for various learning experiences including drills and activities using effective strategies to reinforce and or modify skills.
  • May collect sort and correct lessons and tests; record grades in ledger; redistribute as necessary; file classroom materials.
  • May assist in Health Room by providing first aide in emergency situations.
  • May provides direct assistance to teacher/bus/van driver in relation to student management and school/bus/van safety.
  • May assist student(s) in a 1:1 setting who need additional academic social/emotional or medically fragile supports.
  • Completes required District logs forms and paperwork as required.
  • May assist students with special needs and or adaptive equipment.
  • Assists students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • May provide ongoing training and proactive assistance to students in relation to meeting academic and behavioral expectations.
  • May perform setting up and taking down of materials supplies and furniture to support the behavioral and academic success of students.
  • Evaluates student injuries and performs first aid.
  • Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings as directed.
  • Conduct basic data entry assignments.
  • May assist with attendance attendance monitoring and attendance reporting.
  • May assist with general office/clerical duties as assigned.
  • Other related duties may assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)AND;

Certificates Licenses Registration & Other Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass Safe Schools training modules as assigned.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Related experience in an educational setting.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education training and/or experience.)

Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing correct language usage; receptionist telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid practices and procedures.

Skills to: apply student de-escalation strategies in a variety of unique situations and environments; transition smoothly from one task to another through multiple environments within a school day.

Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate appearance and attire; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality as set forth in Board policy greet stakeholders; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies procedures and other pertinent information; operate maintain and arrange for repair various office/school equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions; practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity.

Physical Effort

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk stand sit use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally maneuver up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
