Job Description
The Role:
This position reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing in the Operations organization and is primarily responsible for the sourcing & management of key accessory suppliers broadly in the categories of 3rd party cameras/sensors lights and optics to meet company quality cost delivery and service goals that support the growth of the business. This position will be based in China with some requirement to travel to suppliers in the region.
Essential Functions
- Develop multi-dimensional global category strategies in collaboration with product marketing with defined improvement plans for cost quality service lead time and security of supply. Provide rigorous analysis of spend data market trends and dynamics to prioritize and launch sourcing initiatives.
- Facilitate global cross-functional commodity or category team meetings to review action plans for each material ID that deliver value to the business. Champion the sourcing process.
- Review & negotiate pricing periodically and manage pricing with key suppliers.
- Conduct price benchmarking exercises through request for quotes with other suppliers in the industry.
- Manage the supplier selection process and ensure selections are based on sound criteria.
- Coordinate the setting up of new suppliers (if applicable) within the Cognex supplier portfolio.
- Collaborate with the legal team to negotiate and execute contracts with suppliers.
- Manage the sourcing activities required by the internal new accessory creation process.
- Provide input on techniques to enhance the supplier management program processes & tools and participate in these initiatives.
- Conduct periodic business reviews with key suppliers & manage all aspects of the supplier relationship.
- Other responsibilities & special projects as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in English
- Demonstrated success in negotiating cost reductions and favorable terms.
- Good communicator ability to lead in an environment of indirect control analytical and fact based with attention to detail.
- Experience performing in a fast-paced goal-oriented and time-sensitive environment
- Proficient with managing and understanding cross-cultural business practices especially within Asia
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP.
Minimum Education and Work Experience
- Bachelors degree in engineering supply chain management materials management or business administration.
- MBA CPM or equivalent degrees/certifications a plus
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in sourcing or commodity/category management.
- Experience in the Machine Vision industry with some exposure to elements of image formation systems (cameras lights or optics) is preferred.
