The Assistant/Associate Dean for Students is responsible for overseeing coordinating developing and assessing student support services for successful advancement of predoctoral dental dental hygiene graduate and DDS/PhD students at the School of Dentistry. The Dean for Students Office focuses on recruiting retaining and fostering the educational and career development of students in the Schools academic programs. The Assistant/Associate Dean for Students is responsible for overseeing DDS admissions financial aid some registrar services including course registration and student support. Support services for students include but are not limited to: event planning such as New Student Orientation Evening of Appreciation Commencement and the White Coat Ceremony; student org representative travel to national meetings; wellness counseling and career personal and academic advising; accommodations for students with disabilities in conjunction with Educational Support Services (ESS); and peer-tutoring.
The Assistant/Associate Dean for Students works to insure that students have the support necessary to maximize their educational opportunities while at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Additionally the Assistant/Associate Dean for Students is an advisor to the dental student Honor Council an ex-officio member of Academic Review Boards I and II and serves as a member of the School of Dentistrys senior leadership team.
Direct reports include: Admissions Director and Assistant Director of Financial Aid. There is also a close functional reporting relationship between the Assistant/Associate Dean for Students and the Student Services Administrative Assistant the Registrar and the CAPS Embedded Counselor.
Candidates must be a current full time faculty member (80% or greater appointment) on the clinical or a tenure track at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Candidates must be in good standing. Appointment to the position involves an institutional reference check regarding any misconduct.
