Role Overview
Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Rutgers Hillel as the Campus Manager for Ramapo Hillel (Mahwah NJ) and Stevens Hillel (Hoboken NJ)! You will build one-onone relationships with students put on awesome events around campus and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. You will be a part of a pluralistic and dynamic Jewish community that meets the needs of our Jewish undergraduate population! The Campus Manager will spend two days each week at Ramapo two days at Stevens and one day at Rutgers Hillel.
In your role you will build opportunities for students to celebrate their identity and find more and more ways to build meaning through Jewish life on campus. As a key engager and solo pro you will take responsibility for how and where students connect with Hillel and each other. Your innovative and creative thoughts will lead to tangible Jewish community-building. Youll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited and enthusiastic about creating an inviting atmosphere that inspires students to explore experience and create vibrant Jewish lives. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5!
What Youll Do
- Outreach and Engagement
- Dedicate two days per week to immerse yourself in the campus life at Ramapo College and two days per week at Stevens Institute of Technology.
- Serve as the main point of connection to Jewish life for the estimated 700 Jewish undergraduate students at Ramapo and Stevens.
- Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live work and/or study utilizing creative methods to reach and interest them.
- Student Leadership
- Supervise the Hillel Student Boards at both campuses attending their Board meetings and serving as their advisor thought partner and support staff.
- Identify a pipeline of student leadership and curate those student experiences from their first year on campus to Hillel student leaders.
- Train and empower Student Board members to take their unengaged peers on coffee runs totaling 25 a year.
- Planning and Program Implementation
- Support weekly student-initiated programs; help plan and attend most programs (including some weekday evenings Shabbat evenings Jewish holidays) and serve as a resource to Jewish groups on campus in need (such as arranging room reservations in student centers).
- Coordinate and facilitate two cross-campus events per year that engage students across 5 campusesRamapo Hillel Stevens Hillel Bergen Community College Hillel Fairleigh Dickinson (Metro) Hillel and William Patterson Hillel. Past events have included bowling a krav maga (Israeli self-defense) lesson apple-picking listening to a guest speaker and more!
- Recruit for and potentially staff immersive experiences such as Birthright Israel and the Jewish Learning Fellowship including implementing a pre- and post-trip engagement plan.
- Marketing and Communications
- Innovate with new ideas for social media engagement including content creation for Ramapo Hillels and Stevens Hillels communications by designing flyers for the Facebook/Instagram feed as well as stories while cultivating a contemporary and genuine undertone for Hillels messaging.
- Synchronize program publicity via website Facebook email newspaper etc.
- Coordinate transportation/carpooling/ridesharing to assist students to reach off-campus events.
- Community Relations
- Deepen key relationships with professionals (especially faculty advisors) from the universitys student life programs helping to ensure positive positioning of Hillel in the university landscape as well as facilitating partnerships in the planning and actualization of programs and activities.
- Engage in strategic relationships with campus administrators and leaders of various university-recognized student groups so that Hillel is seen as an indispensable part of campus life.
- Develop relationships with local organizations and congregations (including partnering with the United Synagogue of Hoboken for the High Holidays or connecting with Caf Europa to bring Holocaust survivors to speak on campus).
- Supervision and Professional Growth
- Devote one day at Rutgers Hillel (New Brunswick NJ) for staff development and supervision with the Assistant Director.
- Meticulously track all engagements event attendances and high-impact relationships in HEaRT database in a timely manner for regular check-ins.
- Pursue grant opportunities through Hillel International to strengthen campus Jewish student life.

- You are a recent college grad with professional extracurricular or volunteer experience or an educational focus in innovation entrepreneurship design thinking or a related field.
- Youre passionate and excited about Jewish life and college students and understand why some students might not want to get involved with Jewish life.
What Youll Bring to the Job
- 0-3 years of professional work experience in Jewish experiential education or related fields.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college.
- A valid New Jerseys driver license and a registered vehicle that will be used daily for commuting.
- Passion for connecting with people from different backgrounds with the goal of building authentic and meaningful relationships.
- Confident in initiating and running programs and comfortable asking questions.
- Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.
- Creative problem-solving and strong critical thinking skills.
- Excitement to continue developing your own relationship to Judaism.
- Eagerness to build Jewish community and develop tools and strategies to do so effectively and with a creative mindset.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours/Jewish holidays/Shabbat.
