The Knowledge Transfer Office serves as the bridge between the University and the community for the transfer of knowledge expertise skills and capabilities in campus-wide disciplines. We implement various initiatives to encourage and facilitate knowledge transfer (KT) including but not limited to the protection of intellectual properties of the University organising activities to engage internal and external stakeholders encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship activities and formulate strategies and policies towards the holistic development of the Universitys KT.
The Office now invites applications for the position below:
Licensing Manager ()
The Licensing Manager is one of a key team member of IP Management & Licensing Team at KTO. The candidate will be responsible for managing the commercialisation of technology and intellectual property developed at the university. This position will play a key role in identifying and evaluating licensing opportunities negotiating and executing licensing agreements and providing guidance to faculty and staff on intellectual property matters.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a licensing strategy for the universitys technology and intellectual property portfolio;
- Identify and evaluate licensing opportunities for university technologies and intellectual property;
- Negotiate and execute license agreements with industry partners;
- Prepare licensing agreements and ensure that they are compliant with university policies and regulations;
- Manage the licensing process from start to finish including conducting due diligence preparing licensing proposals and negotiating terms and conditions;
- Work closely with the Senior Manager (IP & Licensing) and other members of KTO to identify new technologies and intellectual property with commercial potential;
- Build and maintain relationships with industry partners investors and other stakeholders in the technology transfer ecosystem;
- Manage and update the licensing module of IP Management System from time to time;
- Manage portfolio of licensing agreements and ensure that all contractual obligations are met including royalty payments from licensees are duly be collected;
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in technology transfer and licensing;
- Contribute to the marketing and promotion of technology transfer services and the value of the University technology both within the University and externally at IP events;
- Educate HKBU researchers on good practice in IP and commercialisation;
- Support the Senior Manager in managing HKBU R&D Licensing Limited the Universitys wholly owned subsidiary; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A bachelors degree in Law (LLB) or related field;
- At least 8 years of relevant work experience with proven track records in knowledge transfer technology transfer or IP licensing in technology area;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing the company law and business law in Hong Kong is preferred;
- Experience in technology transfer licensing sales engineering independent design house or system integrator preferred; and
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese. Proficiency in Putonghua is preferred.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
