The goal of this project is to establish if the burden of food insecurity among older adults meaningfully changes if we do not rely solely on economic measures and expand our definition to include perceived systemic and biological drivers that influence their relationship with food choice and acquisition. If inclusion of these additional factors results in meaningful change how does this difference influence program delivery and our understanding of the issue. This will be explored by gaining a deeper understanding of i) the correlation between nutritional risk and food insecurity in older adults; ii) the physiological psychosocial environmental attitudinal and socio-economic factors that shape food choice and acquisition; and iii) the ways that community-based programming and services can more effectively support a holistic approach to health well-being and continued engagement for older adults experiencing recognized and unrecognized food insecurity.
