Founded in 1956 HKBU strives to become a world-class research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world delivering academic and research excellence in a caring creative and global culture. The Universitys ambitious Institutional Strategic Plan 2018-2028 sets the research direction to transform HKBU into a reputable international powerhouse for research and teaching excellence.

The University currently has an academic and teaching staff strength of about 1000 and a student population of over 13000. We offer a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through the Faculties/Schools of Arts and Social Sciences Business Chinese Medicine Communication Creative Arts Science and Continuing Education.

In Mainland China the University has successfully pioneered the establishment of a modern liberal arts college Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) jointly with Beijing Normal University. To further strengthen research collaborations with Mainland universities the University has set up a number of research centres/institutes such as the Institute of Research and Continuing Education in Shenzhen.

CENTRE FOR INNOVATIVE SERVICE-LEARNING

The Centre for Innovative Service-Learning (CISL) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is dedicated to fostering a dynamic environment where service-learning (SL) in the curriculum. CISL also manages TriAngle the Universitys first innovation hub where creative minds converge to network and drive positive change through co-curricular social innovation (SI) initiatives.

The mission of CISL is to co-create meaningful learning experiences with the University community and outside partners that empower students to transform knowledge and skills into empathetic actions that address community needs. It strives to provide students with the best experience that fosters holistic development cultivates a strong sense of social responsibility and empowers them with a profound sense of purpose.

We arenow looking for a visionary resourceful and dynamic individual to lead the Centre.

Director ()

Reporting directly to the Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) the Director will lead a team of professionals to achieve the mission of CISL.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategic development of CISL ensuring alignment with the Universitys vision mission policies and priorities;
• Oversee the design development and delivery of SL and SI initiatives and collaborate with academic and administrative units as well as community partners to design and implement SL courses and SI programmes;
• Drive innovative and evidence-based pedagogic practices in SL and SI promote excellence in experiential and community-based learning;
• Develop and implement robust data and impact management frameworks to capture the outputs outcomes and impacts of CISL initiatives demonstrating their contributions to student learning and graduate attributes; as well as benefits to the community;
• Provide guidance training and support to staff and students involved in SL and SI and facilitate collaborative projects at local regional and international levels;
• Build and nurture internal and external partnerships to support CISLs work and expand its reach;
• Engage in university committees and champion a culture of innovation and sustainability on campus; and
• Ensure operational excellence by driving process improvements maintaining compliance and effectively managing teams finances and resources.

Requirements

• Applicants shouldnormallypossess a higher degree in a relevant field and at least five years of experience in higher education and/or community service at a senior level;
• A visionary outlook and strong commitment to the holistic development of university students;
• Extensive experience and knowledge in experiential SL SI and/or community-based learning an advantage;
• Strong community connections and a demonstrated ability to foster sustained partnerships with diverse stakeholders;
• Excellent leadership strategic thinking agility management and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and proactively;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with people at different levels and highly proficient in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua);
• Creativity and openness to integrating innovative technologies into educational initiatives; and
• Occasional travel to the Mainland and overseas will be required.

Shortlisted candidates are required to prepare a presentation.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract for three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
