This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn a single-configuration heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit geostationary transfer orbit cislunar and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a small hardworking passionate and accomplished team of experts you will own engineering support of high rate builds of New Glenns composite payload fairing and fixed adapter including engineering redesign rapid resolution of manufacturing non conformances and design improvements for cost rate and quality.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise leadership skills and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include:

  • Design analysis development and testing/qualification of primary and secondary composite and metallic structures.
  • Create and modify 3D models detail part drawings assemblies installations and interface control documents.
  • Primary design engineering contact for manufacturing and production support issues for Payload Accommodations hardware currently in production at Blue Origin and suppliers.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost and rate improvements through design and drawing updates of primary and secondary structures built both within Blue Origin and at outside suppliers.
  • Identify and implement engineering corrective actions to reduce future non conformances.
  • Support disposition of recurring and one-off non conformances by working with stress M&P ME and adjacent hardware responsible engineers to develop repair/rework/UAI/scrap dispositions for discrepant hardware.
  • Work with cross-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials manufacturing processes and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware.
  • Participate in the development and purchase of new equipment and tooling.
  • Coach mentor and technically assist other engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 5 years of experience with aircraft spacecraft or launch vehicle structures.
  • Experience with aerospace structures design analysis testing and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience supporting production fabrication and assembly of aerospace structures preferably composite.
  • Mechanical design and integration skills using CATIA V5 and the CATIA composite software workbenches.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater Windchill 10.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials manufacturing processes and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
  • Experience designing testing and qualifying composite and metallic hardware.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices fabrication and integration processes and quality control.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41.
  • Effective communicator collaborator and a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with design and analysis of composite structure repairs.
  • Experience with nonconforming hardware disposition (Liaison Material Review Board (MRB) Aircraft on Ground (AOG) etc).
  • Ability to apply structural mechanics principles and development designs using hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise with any industry standard analysis codes: Ansys Nastran Optistruct LS/Dyna Hypermesh Hypersizer.
  • Experience supporting rate increases.
  • Experience with fabrication utilizing automated fiber placement (AFP) and tape laying (ATL).
  • Experience or expertise with fabrication of large-scale out-of-autoclave (OoA) composite structures.
  • Experience with Optimization and DOE methods as applied to design analysis and testing.


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $117498.00-$164497.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
