Located within the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) oversees and purchases substance use and mental health prevention treatment and recovery services and provides inpatient care at the state mental health institutes. OBH is the States behavioral health authority and is responsible for policy development service provision and coordination program monitoring and evaluation and administrative oversight for the public behavioral health system including the behavioral health crisis system and the state crisis hotline.
The Department is committed to ensuring behavioral health clients receive the most appropriate services at the optimal place and time. Colorado is accomplishing this by transforming its behavioral health system to one that is focused on providing individualized focused community-based services and housing options that enable individuals to live work and participate fully in community life. This program will help eliminate unnecessary segregation of persons with disabilities and ensure they receive services in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs.

About the work unit:

The purpose of the Continuity of Treatment (COT) Department is to enhance increase and support treatment programming in all CMHHIP patient units by managing clinical staff call-offs and deployment to minimize clinical treatment and activity cancellations. The goal of the department is to maintain clinical staffing levels for groups which will assist with patient stabilization treatment and discharge preparedness. The department provides clinical training and education on specific treatment approaches as approved by the Chief Clinical Officer. This includes training in therapeutic and group facilitating skills to mental health clinicians and other clinical staff within the hospital to enhance patient treatment outcomes. The work unit develops and implements staffing systems to ensure treatment and activities are ongoing and not canceled. The department tracks group/activity compliance clinical staff call-off and backfill coverage as well as data on treatment/activities and group cancellations. The department maintains all clinical programming schedules staff schedules protocols and group tracking systems. Staff understand and have experience in dealing with issues related to patients with mental health substance abuse developmental disabilities physical handicaps legal issues and multiple psychiatric diagnoses. The legal status of patients may include incompetent-to-proceed competency exams not guilty because of insanity short-term or long-term.

About the Position:

The purpose of this position is to educate and train new and current CMHHIP Medical Staff staff assigned to the Clinical Department and the Continuity of Treatment Office in a variety of curriculum classes. This position will be a unit supervisor over designated staff and/or other disciplines assigned to the COT Department. and serves as the Core instructor in Active Treatment Motivational Interviewing Basic Legal Knowledge Rational Decision Making Social Skills Coping Skills and other Psychotherapeutic and Psychoeducational curricula as determined by the Director of COT and the Chief Clinical Officer. These curricula include but are not limited to classroom and Just in Time training etc. This position assists in developing and maintaining a standard curriculum that is research-based and evidence-informed meets current best practice standards and is supported by data for the purpose of live training. This role will assist with tracking and reporting of all clinical educational programs as well as other attendance through the COT Department Tracking Systems to include group and individual training acquiring skills and attending train-the-trainer training to assist in creating and developing curriculum as determined and approved by the COT Director and Chief Clinical Officer. This position prepares for scheduled training by assuring that current materials and equipment are available organized and by assigning and leading other trainers in the provision of training.
