Library Aides play a major role in ensuring library patrons can easily find what they are looking for at each branch. Library Aides are often focused on sorting arranging and shelving library materials; picking up/unloading checking in and sorting the library book drop; processing new materials; and locating retrieving and processing lists of library materials. Library Aides also assist in setting up equipment for library programs such as story time and help keep the library neat and welcoming for patrons.
Library Aides follow both oral and written instructions and must be able to maintain accuracy in repetitive work over extended periods of time. Library Aides are frequently required to lift and move bins/boxes of materials weighing 30-50 pounds as well as shelve materials at ground level.
The hours for this position are as follows:
Wednesday: 9:00 AM 3:00 PM (6 hours)
Friday: 11:00 AM 5:00 PM (6 hours)
This equals a total of 10 hours per week or 24 hours per pay period.
Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic friendly focused flexible and communicates effectively with coworkers and patrons. The ideal candidate can quickly pivot between tasks in a fast-paced environment from emptying and sorting a book drop overflowing with returned materials to locating various materials on the librarys shelves that patrons have requested to assisting the childrens librarian set-up for a story time. The ideal candidate also maintains accuracy and attention to detail while completing repetitive tasks with over an extended period of time.
Bilingual skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications Sierra and other related computer software programs are highly desirable skills though not required.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed in the class specification.
Bilingual Testing/Certification: To be eligible for the bilingual differential the successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.
