Application Deadline: September 17 2025Start Date: December 1 2025The Monhegan School Department invites applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools offering an extraordinary opportunity to lead and support education in one of Maines unique 12 nautical miles off the coast Monhegan Island is known for its breathtaking natural beauty vibrant artistic heritage and close-knit community. At the heart of the island is the Monhegan Schoola one-room schoolhouse currently serving five students in grades the PositionThis is a part-time role (56 service days annually) ideal for an experienced educational leader seeking a flexible schedule while making a meaningful difference. While island residency is not expected periodic visits to the island are arranged to maintain close engagement with students staff and the ResponsibilitiesProvide educational leadership and administrative oversight to ensure high-quality the academic social and emotional growth of K8 students in a personalized small-school educational support for high school students attending schools on the strong relationships with staff families and the community to foster collaboration and compliance with all state and local education QualificationsProven leadership experience in education with a strong understanding of K8 curriculum and in small rural or one-room school settings organizational communication and independent decision-making skills.A passion for personalized learning and commitment to student-centered salary commensurate with package available.
