Your Role and Responsibilities
Your role as a leader of an application engineering team focused on back-end development is critical to both the teams success and the overall effectiveness of the organization. Heres how you can approach each of the key responsibilities you outlined:
1. Ensuring Timely and High-Quality Deliveries
Tactical Responsibilities:
Project Assignment: Create a skills matrix for team members to identify strengths and weaknesses. Use this to match projects with the right individuals ensuring optimal resource allocation.
Conflict Resolution: Implement regular stand-ups or check-ins to quickly identify and resolve issues. Foster an open-door policy to encourage team members to seek help when needed.
Strategic Responsibilities:
Professional Growth: Schedule regular one-on-one meetings to discuss career goals provide constructive feedback and identify training opportunities. Encourage mentorship within the team to support professional development.
Employee Lifecycle Management: Develop a structured on boarding program that acclimates new hires to the team culture and processes. For off boarding create a checklist to gather knowledge and ensure smooth transitions.
2. Building Systems to Drive Continuous Improvement
Tactical Responsibilities:
Pain Point Identification: Conduct retrospectives after major projects to discuss what went well and what could be improved. Use this feedback to streamline processes and eliminate blockers.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Establish regular touch points with stakeholders to align on project goals and technical decisions. Use these meetings to advocate for scalable solutions that benefit both the team and the organization.
Strategic Responsibilities:
Development Processes: Create a development playbook that outlines best practices tools and methodologies. Regularly review and update this playbook based on team feedback and industry standards.
Roadmap Contribution: Collaborate with product management to align the technical and product road maps. Ensure that the teams work is prioritized based on business impact and technical feasibility.
3. Preparing the Team for Organizational and Technical Evolution
Tactical Responsibilities:
Growth Opportunities: Monitor team dynamics and performance to identify potential leaders or individuals who could benefit from additional responsibilities. Implement a system for team feedback to ensure continuous adaptation.
Communication Efficiency: Use tools like Kan ban boards or project management software to visualize workflows and identify bottlenecks. Regularly reassess team structures to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Strategic Responsibilities:
Hiring Strategy: Work closely with HR to develop a hiring plan that addresses current and future team needs. Involve team members in the interview process to ensure cultural fit and technical competency.

Experience and Qualifications

Experience: Over 2 years of leading web application engineering teams.
Background: Prior experience as a software engineer either in back-end or front-end development.
Contributions: Proven track record of significant contributions to scalable architectures and system designs.
Task Management: Strong skills in defining and breaking down tasks based on functional requirements.
