Job Description

Information Technology (IT) supports the Universitys vision values mission and goals by providing IT infrastructure systems administrative applications academic resources and related services to faculty students and staff. Embracing DUs Impact 2025 the division partners with administrative and academic units to align strategic goals and operational plans providing unified service in the spirit of One DU.

The Digital Media Services Department located within the Anderson Academic Commons provides customer focused support for audio digital and visual technology resources campus-wide at the University of Denver which includes: general and a variety of non-general classrooms audio visual event resources and requests video production services video streaming for live events audio visual services for commencement video teleconferencing audio visual design consultation services and senior level and board of trustee meetings on and off campus.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Digital Media Services a department within IT Customer Services this position is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the department coordinating multiple levels of service and support campus-wide as well as managing vendors. Responsibilities include the management hiring training and implementation of staffing and scheduling for direct reports; works with faculty and teaching assistants students staff and community patrons in multi-dimensional ways to support teaching learning and events campus-wide. Additionally responsible for completing and delivering video projects through a wide range of video delivery formats; responsible for live shoots of University events student recitals internal workshops course content for online learning and special events that may require collaboration with internal department and external vendors; reformatting and encoding a variety of video sources to make available for streaming and archival purposes. The position requires the manager to remain current with industry best practices and collaborate within a team environment. This position possesses an understanding of established procedures and has the ability to resolve complex issues; applies skills and knowledge in multiple functions.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the department manager coordinating the daily workflow for classroom and event services. Determines department priorities based on needs assessment and direction from the Director of Digital Media Services.
  • Responsible for the supervision of 3-5 appointed/benefitted technicians and 3-5 hourly non-benefitted employees which could include student hourly and work-study students. Schedules performs organizes and collaborates on departmental services to support the various service requirements.
  • Schedules and performs on-site camera operation for university events workshops classroom capture course content for online learning student recitals and special events that may require collaboration with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Oversees workflow and produces post production content: Logs and captures camera media at required format and resolution; provides DVD authoring editing and dubbing of audio/video tapes; edits using professional resources such as Apples Final Cut Studio Sony Vegas Pro or similar tools. Supports Digital Production Services and Digital Media Center for video and audio reformatting. Provides backup as needed and helps determine the causes of technical problems and find solutions when appropriate.
  • Manages the workflow of the Digital Media Center and Digital Conversion Services maintaining equipment updating inventory and scheduling staff.
  • Assists faculty staff and students in the operations of A/V equipment. Performs proper recording techniques to ensure quality recordings. Operates controls to maintain correct sound levels for events. Provides information to principal users regarding policies and procedures for all media services.
  • Schedules telephone walk-ins and e-mail requests for A/V equipment checkout Video Creation Studio requests and live video productions.
  • Provides technical expertise and customer service to patrons utilizing AV technology equipment across campus. Provides information to principal users regarding policies and procedures for all classroom technology.
  • Manages billing and statistical data within the event management system. Coordinates repairs and logs problems in the ticketing system. Maintains equipment inventory and determines rotation and maintenance schedules.
  • Provides excellent communication both internally with the team and management as well as externally with the customers. Demonstrates strong organizational analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate situations make recommendations and take prompt effective corrective action.
  • Manages the equipment maintenance on a routine basis for the department. Coordinates periodic inventories for various equipment software and materials and maintains an aging schedule for equipment rotation.

Supervisory Duties

  • Supervision of 3 to 5 appointed/benefited technicians
  • Supervision of 5 to 8 hourly non-benefitted employees which could include student hourly and work-study

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with diplomacy tact and judgment both in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to gather and organize information to identify needs and possible solutions.
  • Must be able to analyze troubleshoot organize work set priorities and develop possible solutions for problems.
  • Ability to prioritize work requests manage projects and be able to concentrate and not be distracted while performing tasks.
  • Good organizational skills punctuality and dependability.
  • Must be able to perform well under pressure and be able to change behavior in relation to others actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree and/or 5 years work experience or equivalent experience
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in digital media environments
  • General knowledge of current audiovisual audio conferencing and videoconferencing technologies
  • Experience in support of Video Production AV and conferencing technologies in a fast-paced customer-oriented environment.
  • Previous experience using Adobe Creative Cloud Final Cut Pro Studio Sony Vegas Pro 8 Photoshop CS DVD Studio and using Apple operating systems.
  • Supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of demonstrated digital media experience in a college or university environment
  • Knowledge of audio and video routing and mixers along with an understanding of the concepts of analog and digital video transmission and interoperability
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience

Working Environment

  • The work environment is a university with cyclical periods of increased workloads with the possibility of moderate to high stress levels.
  • The department is highly automated with attention paid to ergonomics and safety.
  • The unit is one of several working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.
  • The position may require working irregular hours including both weekends and evenings.
  • The work environment consists of surroundings with moderate noise levels and frequent contact with electrical devices.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 & weekends as needed.

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is 11.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $73000 - $75000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
