Job Description

Position:Lunchroom Monitor

The Nashoba Regional School District is hiring Lunchroom Monitors to work in the Emerson/Florence Sawyer Mary Rowlandson Luther Burbank Hale and Center Schools. Each Monitor will work for two to three hours per day depending on demand and environment. The hourly rate is $15.

The Lunchroom Monitor is employed without regard to age physical mental or psychiatric disability genetics race religion sex sexual orientation gender identity marital status national origin or military status.

Organizational Scope:

Supervised by the Principal or Assistant Principal the Lunchroom Monitor supervises students during their lunch periods providing a safe and healthy environment for the students at lunch including behavior management and light clean up tasks as necessary.

Position Responsibilities:

The Lunchroom Monitor assists with and performs the following responsibilities:

  • Organizes students in line while purchasing food and directs them to tables;
  • Helps students develop and observe proper dining habits;
  • Assists younger students with use of utensils when needed;
  • Organizes students for orderly disposal of food waste trans and utensils;
  • Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the cafeteria;
  • Circulates among the tables during the lunch periods so as to be available to help children who need assistance and to resolve any minor problems that arise;
  • Informs school staff of any serious infractions of behavioral norms by students;
  • Calls immediately for help in the event of an argument involving more than two students any incident involving physical confrontation and any incident that appears to be more than a momentary disruption.
  • The omission of specific duties here does not exclude them from the positions responsibilities if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Food Allergy and Choke certifications.
  • Ability to supervise and assist students while coming and going to the cafeteria while in the lunchline and while eating lunch.
  • Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property and assist in fire and other emergencies or emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.
  • The ability to work onsite in district schools and buildings is an essential function of this job.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to work in a confined sometimes noisy and crowded busy cafeteria environment.
  • Ability to communicate with students and staff.
  • The work setting may include exposure to cleaners solvents grease water and fumes.

Terms of Employment Evaluation of Performance and Salary:

The Lunchroom Monitor is a non-union employee on an annual individual employment contract at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools and Building Principal. Terms of employment including evaluation and salary are negotiated individually with the superintendent of schools or his/her designee. Salary for the 2024-2025 school year is set at $15 per hour.
