You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Head of Laboratories at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) NTU is a senior leadership role overseeing the strategic management and development of MAEs laboratory cluster comprising six cutting-edge facilities. This role is integral to advancing MAEs mission to drive innovation strengthen research capabilities and ensure operational excellence while aligning with Singapores RIE2025 strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration
Develop and execute long-term strategies for the laboratory cluster to enhance its alignment with MAEs academic research and industry-focused objectives.
Lead cross-functional teams of faculty technical staff safety officers and administrative personnel to ensure seamless coordination and optimal resource utilization across all labs.
Drive high-impact initiatives including the development of new laboratory capabilities to maintain MAEs competitive edge in advanced manufacturing aerospace and robotics research.
Establish and implement robust policies ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Safety Space Optimization and Financial Oversight
Oversee the implementation of stringent safety protocols and risk management practices ensuring compliance with local and international standards (e.g. ISO 45001:2018).
Lead space utilization strategies proposing and managing large-scale facility upgrades and optimizations to accommodate cutting-edge research and evolving operational needs.
Manage complex budgets and resource allocation balancing operational efficiency with the strategic deployment of financial resources to support the Schools objectives.
Advanced Project and Program Management
Spearhead transformative projects to enhance laboratory infrastructure operational workflows and technological integration driving innovation and productivity.
Design and lead initiatives for modernizing laboratory environments incorporating emerging technologies to support groundbreaking research and education.
Serve as the key driver of continuous improvement by implementing strategic initiatives that promote efficiency sustainability and long-term resilience.
External Relations and High-Level Representation
Act as the primary ambassador for MAE laboratories strengthening relationships with industry leaders regulatory bodies and international institutions.
Plan and lead high-profile lab tours engaging key stakeholders to foster collaborations secure funding and showcase MAEs research excellence.
Represent the laboratory cluster in strategic discussions at university and external forums ensuring the interests of MAE are prominently advocated.
Talent Development and Organizational Resilience
Lead efforts to build and sustain high-performing teams ensuring the continuous professional development of technical staff and researchers.
Introduce and oversee mentorship and cross-functional training programs to foster talent growth and enhance operational agility.
Champion the adoption of a growth mindset promoting adaptability and resilience in response to rapidly changing technologies and operational challenges.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: At least 1012 years of leadership experience preferably in an academic or research environment with expertise in laboratory management safety compliance and facility upgrades.
Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in thermal engineering propulsion systems risk management and safety standards (e.g. ISO 45001). Familiarity with regulatory requirements for gases fuels and safety systems.
Skills: Exceptional leadership organizational and communication skills with a proven track record of driving innovation managing resources and building collaborations.
Personal Attributes: Independent resourceful and adaptable with a strong commitment to excellence and team development.
