We are currently looking to fill the position of Provincial Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator a provincially funded position that is hosted by Student Affairs & Services at Saint Marys University.

Job Information and Responsibilities

Nova Scotia university and community college presidents unanimously endorsed the implementation of the ten recommendations (pg.47-51) of the January 2017 report Changing the Culture of Acceptance: Recommendations to address sexual violence on university campuses (the Report).

Since that time the sector has worked collaboratively on initiatives to improve our sexualized violence prevention and response. The Coordinator will work with university and NSCC representatives on the Provincial Sexual Violence Prevention Committee (PSVPC) to foster collaboration and coordination of institutional implementation of the Reports recommendations with a focus on educational opportunities utilizing best practices and consistent approach across the sector.

The Coordinator will report regularly to three university representatives from the PVSPC. The Coordinator will become a member of the PSVPC and provide written updates to the Committee at its scheduled meetings. The Coordinator will work independently and primarily remotely but will be provided office space on campus as required.

The Provincial Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator duties will include:

Programming Implementation

  • Coordinate the provincial Waves of Change: Bystander Intervention Program
  • Create and implement a workplan including the co-creation of sustainable implementation plans for each post-secondary institution
  • Support delivery of programs through facilitation of training and workshops
  • Manage program budget and program branding materials
  • Build and strengthen relationships with each institution and community partners

Program Evaluation

  • Coordinate program evaluation - create evaluation tools track and assess data and feedback
  • Update program materials based on feedback from students and community partners to ensure relevancy and accuracy
  • Create progress reports and provide updates to program partners

Program Development

  • Create new materials to support program implementation (i.e. coloring pages poster campaigns pamphlets etc.)
  • Ensure Waves of Change and any other educational programs continues to follow best practices and is survivor centered intersectional holistic and trauma informed
  • Support the development of bystander intervention program for an expanded audience
    • increase the programs reach to individuals before they enter the post-secondary environment
    • develop new content that targets specific audiences which could include international students student athletes the 2SLGBTQIA community as well as male-specific audiences

Student Employment Support

  • Oversee student peer-facilitators and maintain a community of practice of student educators
  • Support the training of student educators and peer facilitators by developing and delivering Waves of Change training
