WPRI in Providence is looking for a Weekend Sports Anchor / Reporterto deliver research write and report stories for broadcast and digital platforms in the exciting New England sports market.
- Research produce write edit and present sports content for all platforms.
- Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
- This position involves writing copy editing researching shooting and coordinating sports programming and other content.
- Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
- Develop local sports contacts and deliver top notch sports coverage including high school college and New England professional teams.
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Creates content for our TV app web and social. Experience in podcast style productions is a plus.
- Maintains video equipment.
- Works collaboratively with the sports and news teams.
- Edits video clips for television broadcasts our TV app and digital platforms
- Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities. Expertise in New England sports is a plus.
- Fluency in English
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Minimum of three years of experience in sports reporting and anchoring (Depending on market size)
- Superior on-air presence
- Able to collaborate with others and communicate clearly.
- Proficiency with computers broadcast news systems field cameras and related gear editing equipment telephones copiers scanners fax machines and other office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines prioritize assignments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- The ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
- Valid drivers license with a safe driving record
- Flexibility to work any shift including weekends.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The sports anchor / reporter must be able to sit conduct telephone conversations operate news gathering tools use electronic mail conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups make decisions without supervision make decisions that impact the reporting of co-workers work near others work outdoors in all weather conditions and work indoors in environmentally controlled addition the sports anchor / reporter must be able to lift set up and operate equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and be able to handle control or feel objects tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions
