Job Description

The Program

Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of persons in their communities through a variety of programs and services.

Supports a male person served who is diagnosed with ASD and epilepsy and lives at home with two other roommates.

This is a complex needs behavior position as the individual can be verbally and physically aggressive and requires mental health supports and interventions through out all shifts. Only applicants with 2 years similar experience working with persons with significant mental health concerns aggressive behaviours and/or trauma will be considered for this position.

The Position

The Disability Services Worker (DSW) under supervision of their supervisor facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical behavioural emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community family members guardians and employers. This position reports to the Team Leader.

Challenging behaviours may occur on a daily basis therefore only applicants with de-escalation techniques experience and 2 years experience working with significant high behaviors mental health concerns trauma will be interviewed. Please ensure your resume details these qualifications.

An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and non-complex shifts.

Scheduling:
One (1) permanent full-time position that will work 35 hours per week.
0800-2000 on a two week rotation

In Your Role You Will

Support individuals with household chores life skills personal hygiene (if needed).
Provide supports as per the individuals care plan
Provide immediate support in crisis situations and use de-escalation techniques to deal with behaviours
Administer medication first aid if/when necessary.
Use computer program to write objective daily reports and document notes & observations regarding the client

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain please ensure you prepare accordingly.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

Work well in an environment with potential for aggression/violence
MUST HAVE 2 years experience working with individuals with significant mental health concerns aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
High School Diploma/GED.
Prefer a Certificate Diploma or Degree Disability Service Worker Social Work Special Education or related field
Valid class 5 driver license (or GDL and 2 years driving experience) with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
Training in Trauma Informed Practice Medication Administration Suicide Intervention Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) Conflict Resolution Food Safe
Confident & able to function in a crisis
