About the unit
West Bloomfield is an outpatient facility offering two Endoscopy Suites and an additional 3 ORs. Service lines consists of endoscopy ophthalmology podiatry ENT breasts plastics general surgery and dental provide care for both pediatric and adult patient populations. West Bloomfield utilizes a teamwork approach comprised of RNs Surgical Technologists and Surgery Support Staff to provide compassionate care for patients while supporting surgeons and anesthesia providers throughoutthesurgical safety is primary focus along with providing patient -family centered care.
Scope of work
Performs and provides expertise and guidance to a variety of technical skills including provision of fully functional equipment. Recommends complex specialty equipment purchases and inventory levels. Initiates purchase orders. Performs patient care activity by assisting with Endoscopy procedures under the supervision of a nurse. Care provided is based on physical psychosocial and developmental needs of patients.
Responsibilities:
Assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedure including specimen collection under supervision of physicians and nurses in the procedure rooms and when traveling to the patients bedside or other departments (ie. Surgery Radiation Oncology). (See addendum)
Performs a variety of analytical techniques to ensure safe and operable equipment of the most complex nature for patient care. Serves as leader/preceptor in the orientation process of all new personnel and skills validation of RNs LPNs and Endoscopy Technicians.
Recommends/initiates orders for specialty equipment and inventory. Determines adequate inventory of specialized supplies equipment and parts required for complex procedures. Maintains records on equipment orders and repair invoices. Tracks and registers stents according to FDA guidelines. Contacts Purchasing and vendors for stat orders.
Clean/disinfect equipment; process instruments for sterilization; maintain assess troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment; maintain Quality Assurance Records for efficacy of high-level disinfectant. Verifies that appropriate equipment accessories and supplies are in the procedure room prior to case starting. Performs functional checks to assure proper setup and operation.
Attends department in-service/meetings & completes skills validation to maintain expected performance/education standard. Recognizes/reports/assists with emergency and/or CPR situations.
Demonstrates a high degree of professional conduct.
Assists in the development of a learning environment in relation to orientation/education of personnel and students per policy.
