Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Bookkeeper for our construction company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing payroll (including union and prevailing wage requirements) maintaining accurate job costing records and overseeing day-to-day accounting functions tailored to the construction industry. Prior experience with construction accounting union payroll and prevailing wage compliance is strongly preferred.
What youll do:
- Process weekly or biweekly payroll for all employees including union non-union and prevailing wage projects.
- Ensure accurate wage rates deductions fringe benefits and withholdings according to union agreements and prevailing wage requirements.
- Prepare review and submit certified payroll reports as required by federal state and local agencies.
- Maintain job cost records by allocating labor materials and overhead to specific projects providing regular job cost reports to management.
- Reconcile bank statements accounts payable/receivable and general ledger accounts.
- Manage and track subcontractor compliance lien waivers and contracts as they relate to job cost and payroll.
- Collaborate with project managers and estimators to ensure proper budget tracking billing and contract compliance.
- Prepare monthly quarterly and annual financial reports including W-2s 1099s and year-end payroll reconciliations.
- Stay informed on current payroll laws union agreements prevailing wage regulations and industry best practices.
- Support the Owner with audits and other accounting projects as needed.
What youll bring:
- 2 years experience as a bookkeeper or payroll specialist in the construction industry preferred.
- Working knowledge of prevailing wage laws union payroll (including fringe benefit reporting) and certified payroll reports.
- Proficient with accounting and payroll software (QuickBooks Sage Foundation or similar).
- Strong attention to detail accuracy and confidentiality.
- Excellent organization skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills for working with field staff project managers and union reps.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelors degree in accounting or related field preferred.
