HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW
The Customs Brokerage Supervisor oversees all import and export activities ensuring they comply with applicable customs and other government agencies rules and regulations. This position involves managing documentation coordinating with customs officials and brokers and advising internal teams on compliance matters to avoid delays penalties or legal issues.
This position is 100% in-office near Detroit MI.
EXPECTATIONS
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for trade compliance escalation and guidance
- Ensure proper HTS classification Country of Origin and valuation is declared on customs entry
- Ability to lead the team through high pressure and ambiguous situations
- Conduct internal audits and implement remediation plans to correct and prevent non-compliance
- Create maintain and conduct training on customs brokerage procedures and processes
- Monitor regulatory changes and update internal procedures accordingly
- Partner with CBP brokers freight forwarders and government agencies
- Lead special programs and manage duty drawback claims
- Monitor KPIs reports to share with leadership team
- Build solid relationships with internal and external business partners and customers
ESSENTIALS
- License Customs Broker required
- Bachelors degree preferred
- 5 years of experience in customs compliance international logistics or trade operations
- Strong knowledge of HTS classification country of origin valuation methods FTAs AD/CVD
- Familiarity with customs software; CargoWise and ACE
- Excellent analytical organizational and communication skills
- Experience leading a team by fostering a culture of support collaboration and transparency
