Position Overview:

The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites well qualified candidates to apply for the position of Investigations Manager. The ideal candidate for this position will have prior law enforcement experience as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment can develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships be highly organized and be capable of multi-tasking to keep up with the demands of a busy and growing agency. Strong supervision and employee motivation skills are a must. ILETSB is conveniently located at the southern edge of downtown Springfield in a beautifully maintained building across from the Lincolns Home National Historic Site with free secured parking on-site. Essential Functions

  • Under general direction of the Deputy Director of Professional Standards serves as the Manager of Investigations.
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Conducts special and routine projects often of a sensitive and confidential nature for the Deputy Director of Professional Standards and Executive Director.
  • On behalf of the Deputy Director of Professional Standards and/or Executive Director serves on various committees.


Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college preferably with courses in law enforcement criminal justice or a related field.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a sworn law enforcement capacity including administration and basic patrol duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer in good standing of a local state or federal law enforcement agency.
  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated ability in the performance of law enforcement investigations.
  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated ability to analyze problems and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated experience successfully supervising sworn law enforcement officers at the local state or federal level.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience communicating complex ideas effectively in a professional setting both verbally and in writing.
  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional productive and cooperative working relationships with others in the criminal justice field.
  • Three (3) or more years of demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word Outlook PowerPoint Excel & Adobe Acrobat.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a valid Illinois Drivers License and the ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled unscheduled or lastminute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing and involves sitting for long periods of time.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars conferences and trainings to stay current on methods tools ideologies or other law enforcement/criminal justice related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background and employment history check.
