Employment Type: Part-Time Non-Exempt (12-15 hours a week)

Wage: A competitive hourly range of $20 base pay

Department: Political

Reports To: Youth Organizing Associate

Position Location: Central Valley Sierra Nevada or Inland Empire - Hybrid

Work Schedule: Hybrid schedule in person at least once every four weeks


California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) and EnviroVoters Education Fund are excited to launch a search for Youth Ambassadors to join our dynamic fun and high-performing team!


The Ambassadors at EnviroVoters Ed Fund are the leaders of the campaign WE CAN: Water Equity and Clean Air Now! Their campaign tackles the severe inequities surrounding water equity and clean air in the Central Valley Inland Empire and the Sierra Nevada regions by supporting youth leadership at the forefront of fighting for these issues.


The Central Valley and Inland Empire have some of the nations worst air quality especially from warehouses oil production mining and agriculture. Long-term health risks like respiratory diseases lung cancer and impaired cognitive functioning will severely impact our community if we do not act now.


That is why we are calling for all youth aged 18 to 30 in the Central Valley and Inland Empire to join our team. By joining you will participate in a year-long cohort program where together you will learn how to build grassroots power for the environment and climate justice which includes advocacy for a youth climate board to give young people a voice in local decision-making and community education and outreach to achieve environmental justice for our communities.

The climate crisis is here. And Black Indigenous and people of color have been bearing the burden of our pollution-based economy for generations. We have the solutions to stop climate change but we lack the political will to do it at the rate and scale thats needed.


EnviroVoters exists to build the political will and power to solve the climate crisis use climate action to advance justice and create a global roadmap. To protect our water land air and our most vulnerable communities we organize voters elect and train candidates and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change.

Our vision is to build resilient healthy thriving communities and create a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend weekly meetings online to learn grassroots organizing skills public speaking advocacy complete administrative duties and other field work and to collaborate with the cohort and meet at least once monthly in-person with the respective regional cohort.
  • Coordinate with your cohort and plan the next phase of the Water Equity and Clean Air Now! Campaign (WE CAN!) to push for youth climate boards in your respective regions.
  • Develop and lead community initiatives and run grassroots organizing campaigns to advance solutions for community-identified environmental issues and advocate for a vibrant sustainable and healthy environment.
  • Plan and coordinate events including but not limited to workshops informational sessions volunteer recruitment and forums aimed at engaging students youth community members and to recruit volunteers on issues of clean air and water and youth civic participation.
  • Expand awareness on climate environmental policies environmental justice and other local issues through digital organizing and social media advocacy.
  • Increase youth civic participation through issue-based organizing and nonpartisan get-out-the-vote activities.
  • Meet with local elected officials and state legislators in their respective regions and in Sacramento to advocate for sustainability initiatives environmental justice issues and the importance of youth involvement.
  • Participate and attend the two staff retreats across the three Ambassadors regions - Central Valley Inland Empire and Sacramento (one in the fall and one in the winter).
  • And engaged in other duties as assigned

IDEAL CANDIDATE SKILLS

The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about protecting the environment and addressing climate change. They have a strong understanding of environmental justice issues and are committed to advocating for equitable solutions. This individual is not only knowledgeable about the issues of climate justice in their community but is also enthusiastic about actively engaging in initiatives that promote equity. They also have the following skills:

  • Dedication for 12 hours/weekly minimum
  • Passionate about environmental justice sustainability and environmental policy
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Good time management
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW

This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to assume a pivotal role with this highly respected organization from September 2025 to June 2026.

There are opportunities to extend the role into a two-year program following the conclusion of this term.
