Position SummaryThe Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides expert clinical guidance staff education and leadership in nursing practice. This role is essential in supporting high-risk and complex patients advancing care standards and mentoring nursing staff to ensure excellence in patient outcomes.
Essential ResponsibilitiesEstablish evaluate and monitor nursing care standards; recommend changes in clinical practice to improve outcomes.
Collaborate with nursing staff to assess age-specific patient and family needs developing care plans for complex/high-risk patients.
Design and implement patient and family education programs; support staff in program execution.
Develop and oversee interdisciplinary plans of care for complex patients.
Assess staff competency identify educational needs and design programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Introduce and train staff on new techniques and evidence-based innovations.
Serve as a preceptor for graduate-level healthcare students.
Provide consultation to physicians nurses and healthcare providers in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Lead practice improvement initiatives by applying clinical research and defining best nursing practices.
Participate in staff interviewing orientation evaluation and clinical coaching/counseling.
Basic Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical specialty experience.
Licensure/Certifications:
Current California RN license (required at hire).
Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification by the California Board of Registered Nursing (required at hire).
Current BLS certification.
NPI (if required for role) prior to start.
Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior CNS experience.
ICU or CVICU nursing background.
Advanced certifications such as ACLS or PALS.
Graduate degree (MSN or DNP).
CNS Certification (California Board of Registered Nursing).
Experience in staff training and nursing orientation.
ICU or CVICU clinical experience.
MSN or DNP degree.
Advanced practice leadership experience.
Strong ability to mentor and develop interdisciplinary teams.
