Onsite or Remote Candidates MUST be WI residents or willing to relocate to WI prior to starting the role at their own expense. This is a hybrid position requiring extensive travel to remote sites throughout the state while driving a state fleet vehicle or when appropriate use of a personal vehicle with expensed mileage costs.

On-site HQ work is required with travel to remote sites across the state.
The client manages the technology infrastructure that drives the Agencys facilities security and business systems. The IT department manages infrastructure and software that supports the WHS Headquarters building the State Archives Preservation Facility (SAPF) and twelve Historic Sites around the State. This position reports to the Deputy IT Director and works closely with IT team members facilities & maintenance staff site leadership key intemal stakeholders such as the State Historic Presetvation Office (SHPO) and external partners including the Department of Administrations (DOA) Division of Enterprise Technology (DE T) providing expertise and support for a variety of complex technical and facilities infrastructure solutions.
The Surveillance & Access Control Ill position is a highly technical role responsible for installing configuring testing and managing agency infrastructure projects to modemize a variety of complex electronic systems including security life-safety building automation and network solutions. This includes hands-on work not limited to running cables terminating fiber or copper network connections mounting equipment installing hardware and generally assisting with infrastructure-related facilities projects. While not directly responsible for network administration the Surveillance & Access Control Technician Ill plays a key part in identifying troubleshooting and coordinating solutions for network-related issues in partnership with IT leadership and external service providers ensuring that electronic systems integrate properly into the agency and states infrastructure.
Working both independently and as part of project teams the Surveillance & Access Control Technician Ill champions and supports ongoing modernization efforts petforms life cycle planning for critical security and facility technologies and develops documentation for maintenance and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:

Facilities Technology Planning & Project Support

Participate in planning for new site builds renovations and infrastructure upgrades involving security or building control technologies.
Coordinate and oversee the IT related components of installation and ongoing management for surveillance systems access control equipment fire or security systems building automation controls network infrastructure VolP systems etc.
Coordinate and assist with technology setups for new locations renovations and infrastructure upgrades.
Manage external vendors or contractors performing system installations and integrations to ensure quality safety and adherence to WHS standards.
Frequent travel to WHS and partner locations attending and providing technology expertise in support of numerous Facilities or IT led projects.

Facilities & Network Infrastructure Support
  • Install terminate and maintain copper and fiber cabling and structured wiring for network or facilities technology.
  • Perform patching and connectivity troubleshooting at IT closets and mechanical spaces. Identify facilities systems and network performance issues coordinate with external service providers and submit service requests as needed.
  • Support the setup relocation and maintenance of facilities and network hardware including workstations access points and facility technology endpoints.
  • Support and maintain facilities infrastructure and systems including security cameras door access systems life safety equipment and audiovisual (AV) installations.
  • Frequent travel to remote WHS locations for infrastructure support or installations
Business IT System Technical Support & Collaboration
Support audiovisual (AV) systems and web-conference technologies in meeting rooms public areas and event spaces across WHS locations throughout the state.
Respond to technical requests related to network infrastructure AV systems point-ofsale systems and other facilities technologies.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues escalate complex problems as needed.
Work with external service providers to escalate and resolve complex technical issues.
Provide user education and training including the creation of user guides FAQ and SOP documents while championing the adoption of new technologies or software applications Maintain documentation including standard operating procedure (SOP) documents cabling layouts network drop records infrastructure maps and system configurations.
Collaborate with IT leadership and senior technicians on creation of roadmaps for infrastructure improvements and modernization efforts.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

5 years of relevant experience with access control surveillance telecommunications network infrastructure life-safety or building automation technology and systems.
Experience supporting installing and designing surveillance or access control systems.
Experience in network cabling structured wiring and physical technology installations. Working knowledge of network or physical connectivity troubleshooting with the ability to identify issues and coordinate with external service providers.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong understanding of IT industry best practices and security standards.
Strong attention to detail and experiencing creating clear documentation of complex technical systems workflows and procedures.
Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to evolving infrastructure needs.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate with vendors service providers and internal or external partners.
Valid drivers license and ability to travel statewide.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and access mechanical spaces as needed.
Ability to work in a physically active role including running cables mounting equipment and working in network closets.

This is a hybrid position requiring extensive travel to remote sites throughout the state while driving a state fleet vehicle or when appropriate use of a personal vehicle with expensed mileage costs.

On-site HQ work is required some days based on project and operational demands but WHS is a great place to work right in the heart ofdowntown Madison and the UW-Madison Campus. Remote work is allowed and encouraged when possible. Candidates MUST be WI residents or willing to relocate to WIprior to starting the role at their own expense.

Public parking options are available nearby public transportation is halfa block away and bike racks are available just outside ofour HQ doors. Regular commuting expenses are not covered by WHS

Pay rate: $30/hr on W2.
