QUALIFICATIONS: Desire to work with at-risk students to support graduation and career/college goals; bachelors degree preferred but not requiredREPORTS TO: Principal or Principal DesigneeRESPONSIBILITIES:Under the direction of authorized administrators the Graduation Mentor shall:Build relationship with students so students have a trusted adult to turn to when needed:Hold high expectations of young people and be a role model for studentsOffer opportunities to problem solve exchange ideas and ask questionsUse strategies to motivate and build self-esteem/confidence in studentsProvide academic support so students can earn credits to fulfill WHS graduation requirements:Assist students to prioritize and organize schedule school work and other student responsibilities including developing good study habitsSupport students in content areas to help them meet course expectations Collaborate with teachers and families to ensure school work is complete and up-to date share information and determine strategies that best support learningAssist juniors and seniors in developing career/college plans for life after graduation:Provide information and connections to college career and military opportunitiesHelp students navigate the processes of college career and/or militarySupport the completion of financial aid scholarship applicationsBuild relationships with students families in order to work together to achieve student goalsPromote personal and social skills to help students navigate school and social situations:Listen to student concerns and set goals create action plans and follow through with students in order to resolve academic/social/attendance issues Help students make informed decisions and support students in developing self-advocacy skillsCollaborate with guidance counselors administrators teachers and families to assist as necessary with support for students Support student attendance and punctuality to ensure students have a chance to learn:Monitor daily attendance; implement strategies to overcome attendance barriersNotify appropriate support systems of any concerns/information (admin counselor families) that will improve attendanceComplete mentor documentation in a timely fashion including mentor logs and time cardsTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTMust be available during the school day: 7:15 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Must participate in mentor training provided by WPSPart-time employment - 10 - 19.5 hours per week depending upon assignmentSALARYStipend- $30.00 per hour DATES OF EMPLOYMENTAugust 25 2025 June 2026EVALUATIONPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield Public School evaluation observations by WHS Administration and student feedback.
