MOBILE DIESEL TECHNICIAN
Job Summary
This position is responsible for safely operating a mobile repair vehicle for the routine maintenance diagnostics and repair on all trailers and related equipment. To succeed in this role one should have a solid knowledge of basic mechanics tools service and diagnostic equipment as well as strong attention to detail excellent communication and customer service skills and be able to work independently or as a team member.
Mechanic Responsibilities
- Aptitude in using various hand tools power tools and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
- Perform requested repairs according to industry standard
- Perform routine maintenance on trailers and related equipment
- Perform trailer body work under-carriage work (e.g. air bag replacement cross-members dolly legs tandem system)
- Inspect analyze and diagnose trailers and related equipment for mechanical issues faulty and replacement parts.
- Problem solve and document an action plan for all repairs and follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs.
- Ensure a safe organized and tidy workspace including regularly cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines as well as common sense safety practices.
- Ability to work independently as well as support coworkers able to work as part of team and work well with co-workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge-Based Requirements
- Possess a valid drivers license and a clear Motor Vehicle Report to our Driver Fleet Policy.
- Must be insurable according DTRs insurance companys requirements (acceptable driving record age min/max requirements)
- Must be able to read and write in English in order to follow local state and federal driving laws and signs and as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
- ASE Certifications and/or Vocational/ Trade-School certification preferred but not required.
- 1-3 years of mechanical or equivalent experience (Denoted below*).
*Class A Mechanic 5 yrs experience. *Class B Mechanic 3-5 yrs experience. *Class C Mechanic 1-3 yrs experience.
- Able to pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test to determine probability of job success and mechanical classification.
- Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills.
- Must be able to read and write in English as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
- Must have own tools plus Safety Glasses Steel-toed shoes and Hearing Protection.
- Able to pass 10-year background check.
- Able to pass drug test / medical physical exam
Physical Demands/Abilities performed throughout the duration of the work shift.
- Heavy Work- Exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs of force frequently or up to 20lbs of force constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including other job related items.
- Walking/Standing for sustained periods of time.
- Climbing Ascending or descending ladders stairs scaffolding ramps poles and the like using entire body
- Stooping/Crouching Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist legs and spine.
- Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
- Kneeling/Crawling Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s) or moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Whole Hand/Fingers Picking pinching typing with fingers and grasping with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive Motion Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists hands and/or fingers.
- Talking Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to others accurately and quickly when necessary.
- Hearing Receiving detailed information through oral communication at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Vision Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading using measurement devices viewing electronic devices assembling inspecting small parts and/or operating machines and power tools operate a motor vehicle and determine the accuracy neatness and thoroughness of work performed.
Work Environment: Work is performed in a shop; both indoors and outdoors. Activities occur inside and outside and are subject to
work environments that are not climate controlled weather and hot/cold temperature changes dirt dust soot and possibly mold loud noiseand ladders to use for high heights. Potential hazards such as moving vehicles proximity to moving mechanical parts electrical current high places high heat and exposure to chemicals atmospheric conditions (e.g. fumes odors dust mists gases) or poor ventilation or a workspace may be exposed to smoke residue mold and mildew contaminated water or other unsanitary conditionsas well as being in closed quarters/confined spaces (e.g. crawl spaces small enclosed rooms attics etc.)
