Student Worker - Visitor Experience Assistant

Purpose/Objective of the Role:
Visitor Experience Assistants promote a welcoming professional and engaging gallery environment to visitors at the Ross Art Museum.
Secondly they help to monitor the gallery and perform tasks that support the promotion and execution of tasks. Assistants will on occasion be asked to help with exhibition installation and de-installation.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Visitor Experience Assistants monitor property to protect art on display. Assistants remain alert so that they can be proactive in reporting issues during their shift.
- Visitor Experience Assistants appropriately acknowledge all patrons provide basic information about the galleries assist the public with directions and answer questions whenever reasonable and possible.
- Visitor Experience Assistants ensure that lights are turned on gallery technology is prepared for visitor use and cases are clean.
- Visitor Experience Assistants report maintenance needs or equipment malfunction to a supervisor to ensure full patron enjoyment of the exhibition.
- Visitor Experience Assistants educate patrons about gallery rules to support the safety of the work on display and enjoyment of other patrons.They appropriately report the altered condition or presentation of any works in the gallery to their supervisor in a timely manner.
- As a member of the Exhibits Team Visitor Experience Assistants attend walk-throughs with the curators each semester and as-needed training so they have the basic skills and informationto represent OWUs distinctive collections with professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Visitor Experience Assistants serve as the frontline data-gatherers in a team-wide assessment process by accurately collecting and tallying patron counts and patron feedback (when requested).
- Visitor Experience Assistants also support Museum Staff in tasks related to preparing exhibitions which may include patching & painting walls unpacking & packing artwork assistance framing labeling postcards proofing labels and communicating via social media about upcoming events.
- As representatives of OWU exhibitions and the university Visitor Experience Assistants give care to their personal presentation and arrive at work on time clean professionally dressed and able to positively perform their job duties.
Qualifications/Skills:
- All OWU students in any major are eligible to apply. Students with Federal Work Study are encouraged to apply.
- Students should enjoy working with people and have an ability to act and present professionally when engaging with a diverse public.
- Students should have the ability to be timely dependable display reasonable decision-making capacity and diligently follow appropriate open and close procedures.
