IMSA is committed to equity and excellence including the active recruitment of students from all areas of Illinois. IMSAs Dominican University Chicago PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally linguistically and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming. This grant-funded program is designed to support Black or African American students Latinx students students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program around the Dominican University Chicago Campus. The DU Chicago PROMISE Program consists of two grade-based experiences (fall and spring) serving students 7th -8th grade.
Currently we are seeking a Science Facultyfor the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 Dominican University Chicago PROMISE Program which serves students currently enrolled in the 7th and 8th grade. The program will run on 6 designated Saturday this program instructors will work with students that have varying academic backgrounds.
Responsibilities
Program Dates and Details:
- Expected number of participants:
- 7th Grade Fall 2025 : 30
- 8th Grade Spring 2026 : 30
- Participants will be split into small groups of 15
- Expected work hours are Saturdays 8:30AM - 12:30PM
- Fall 2025 Session Dates:
- September 13
- September 20
- September 27
- October 4
- October 11
- October 18
- Spring 2026 Session Dates ; TBD
Program Schedule:
- Participants will rotate through 2 different classes & 1 outdoor activity at 60 minutes each
- Classes to be hosted: Math Science for 7th and 8th grade
- One period will be designated for a brunch / outdoor activity break (Period 2 or 3) depending on group
- Tentative schedule:
- Period 0: 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Setup
- Period 1: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Math & Science
- Period 2: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Science & Outdoor Activity
- Period 3: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Math & Outdoor Activity
- Period 5: 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM Breakdown / Clean Up
Expectations:
- Execute a daily lesson plan. This may include approved original curriculum activities used in previous years curriculum provided by the Outreach department or a combination of these options
- Lead lectures and hands on activities with assistance from student tutors
- Maintain a safe respectful and encouraging environment for participating students
Other information:
- Faculty will have the assistance of Dominican Chicago GA student tutors who can lead/facilitate activities for the class and/or small groups.
Qualifications
Compensation:
- $46.00/hr. This position is not benefits eligible.
