TEMPORARY END DATE: This position is temporary and ends on or before June 30 2026. Any continuation beyond June 30 2026 is contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.

FT/PT: Full-time

PAY PLAN: 12-month

WORKPLACE TYPE: On-site (work in-person at business location)

ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4482 per month

CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $4482 - $6342

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT:

POSITION PURPOSE: Associated Students Inc. (ASI) at California State University Bakersfield seeks to assist in the protection of the rights and interests of individual students and the student body as a whole. ASI exists to provide the official voice through which students opinions and issues may be expressed regarding university and statewide affairs while also providing resources and programs that encourage leadership development and broaden social educational political and cultural awareness for the betterment of the students.

Under the general supervision of the ASI Executive Director the Student-Parent Engagement Assistant provides entry-level support in delivering programs services and communications for students with dependents. The Assistant assists in coordinating outreach efforts workshops and events that promote awareness of campus and community resources. The position serves as a point of contact for basic inquiries distributes information maintains resource materials and helps update relevant web content. Working collaboratively with campus departments and under established guidelines the Assistant supports initiatives that contribute to the engagement retention and well-being of student-parents at CSUB and CSUB-AV.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student-Parent Programming Support

  1. Support the coordination of educational workshops and programs in collaboration with ASI and other student service departments (e.g. Center for Accessibility and Essential Needs).
  2. Assist in planning and scheduling events for students with dependents including presentations and tabling during resource fairs.
  3. Assist with collecting feedback from students on existing programs and share findings with supervisor to support future planning.
  4. Assist with providing general information during resource fairs and other campus events.
  5. Help compile informational materials for distribution at CSUB and CSUB-AV.

Communication Support

  1. Respond to basic inquiries from students with dependents and refer them to appropriate campus and community services.
  2. Maintain and distribute resource guides and referral materials for students with dependents.
  3. Assist in the preparation of email and social media updates using approved templates.

Data Collection Support

  1. Assist with gathering basic data on student-parent initiatives and support programs to be shared with ASI Board of Directors once a month.
  2. Gather and organize background information on CSU and state resources related to student-parents using provided guidelines. Assist with communicating general information on resources.

Website Support

  1. Assist in updating student-parent information on the departments webpages using provided content.
  2. Work with IT or communications staff to ensure accessibility and accuracy of posted resources.
  3. Review web content for outdated links or missing information and notify supervisor for follow-up as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or job-related field and one (1) year of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job related education may be substituted for the required experience.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKAs)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK involves mainly sitting up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training experience and interest in the position.

BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

SENSITIVE POSITION:Sensitive positions are designated by the CSU as requiring heightened scrutiny of individuals holding the position based on potential for harm to children concerns for the safety and security of the people animals or property or heightened risk of financial loss to the CSU or individuals in the university community.

MANDATED REPORTER:General: The person holding this position is considered a general mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 revised July 21 2017.
