About the role!
  • The Student Support Counselor will play a vital role in providing opportunities and availability to engage with students when requested by staff in compliance with both the students behavior plan and staff requests as well as Attend all meetings to review BERs. Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical and Behavior Programs the Student Support Counselor will support classroom staff to promote Positive Behavior Teaching implementation. Support classroom staff in implementing individual Positive Behavior Plans including the use of individual coping strategies.
As a StudentSupport Counselor you will:
Classroom/Student Support:
  • Provide opportunities and availability to engage with students when requested by staff in compliance with the students behavior plan or staff requests.
  • Be available for check-ins with individual students to problem-solve situations events or social interactions with others.
  • Attend and participate in classroom morning meetings when a students behavior plan or behavior is being discussed.
  • Be present to offer support to students during arrival and dismissal times.
  • Ensure adequate/optimal coverage for all recesses.
  • Support/model classroom/student behavior management for classroom staffas necessary
Crisis Management:
  • Execute role in full compliance with Federal state and SELPA-approved programs/policies and procedures for dealing with behavior emergencies.
  • Assure proper Pro-ACT regulated procedures are used when behavior crises occur and that required Behavior Emergency Reports are completed within 24 hours being delivered to the Compliance Program Manager
  • Provide any needed or requested support and/or guidance to behavior specialists classroom staff and/or students
  • Supervise follow behavior plans and complete PBTs when a student is placed in ALL (Alternative Learning Location)
  • Supervise students who are off task visually and within adequate proximity to respond when necessary.
  • Complete Behavior Emergency Reports (BER) or Incident Reports (IR) within 24 hours of the incident delivering them to the Compliance Program Manager.
  • Attend all meetings to review BERs.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach weekly PE lessons in accordance with the schools master schedule
  • Conduct required yearly PE assessments.
  • Refer to class Behavior Specialist and /or therapist for check-in as needed.
  • Monitor students if in a quiet room logging duration and any relevant information in the quiet room log.
  • Become a Pro-Act Trainer and conduct training as scheduled meeting all requirements of continuing certification.
  • Oversee all incidents that call for the direct intervention of an escalated student.
  • Support classroom staff to promote Positive Behavior Teaching implementation. Support classroom staff in implementing individual Positive Behavior Plans including the use of individual coping strategies.
  • Communicate with the students team when there is an escalation in behavior and immediately to their therapist if a student makes statements of self-harm or injury to others.
  • Meet with the Director of Clinical and behavior Programs and/or Behavior Program Manager as needed.
  • Ensure that the quiet rooms and supervision of quiet rooms are compliant with CA laws and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
Accountability:
  • Ensures that school policies and procedures are carried out.
  • Ensures that CA Educational Code is adhered to.
  • Adheres to CHC/EBC Employee Handbooks.
  • Ensure the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Laws are adhered to.
  • Protect the confidentiality of clients/students and families.
What were looking for:
  • Candidate will be responsible for training supervising and evaluating school staff in the principles of Pro-Act.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of all State local and SELPA laws regulations and policies regarding behavioral emergencies.
  • Must be able to remain calm and rational in the face of escalated and/or threatening behavior.
About your background (education/experience):
  • Experience in special education with children needing behavioral intervention or as a behaviorist in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of public school special education regulations governing behavior. Knowledge of the IEP process.
  • Requires at least a B.A. or B.S. in a relevant field and 5 years of school-based experience as a classroom behaviorist or behavior support specialist.
  • Active certificated training in an approved behavior emergency procedure and methodology is required for any candidate.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be in good physical health.
  • Must be able to walk/run in the event a student leaves campus.
  • Must be able to physically implement the principles of Pro-Act meeting the size and weight requirements specified by Pro-Act.
  • In the event of a behavioral emergency this individual must be able to safely implement physical interventions to keep all students and staff safe.
Compensation:
Range: $75000 to $98000 per year
Pay Type: Salary
* The starting base salary for this position is as shown above. The actual base salary is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background training work experience location business needs and market demand. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
