Job Description
The primary responsibility in this position is to serve as an academic aide to assist students with disabilities in labs or classrooms.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • 90% Serve as a laboratory aide; note-taking in the classroom; proctoring scribing and reading exams; physically manipulating objects; and assisting with live computer navigation and program usage for the student.
  • 5% Communication with supervisor at the Student Access Center about challenges or concerns.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule
Hours vary according to workload but expect to commit to at least six hours per week during Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. work week.

Hours may increase and/or include occasional evening shifts when proctoring exams.

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support program consisting of three unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the Universitys commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom support academic and personal development and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Success.

Student Access Center (SAC) is one of the Centers within UASC. The SAC serves students with documented disabilities to provide equal access to academic materials and programs and to co-curricular programs and activities. This position will report to the Assistant Director in the SAC.

During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled inno fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1)have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolledin the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled insummer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. StudentHourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted forGRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)



(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
