The cartage agent is responsible for tactical execution of all cartage related operations within a district. The districts cartage program includes working across all products to support consolidations/deliveries/pickups/appointments of import domestic and export shipments. Collaboration with district warehouse operations and service providers is another key area of responsibility. As a cartage agent customer service to both internal and external customers must be of the highest quality.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Pickup & Delivery Operations Centralized dispatching
- Handle dispatching of all products for the Branch
- Carry out tracking and tracing and monitoring of all pickups and deliveries for all products
- Proactive communication with our internal and external customers to meet pickup and delivery needs
- Follow up on delays and exception coding and reporting
- Daily focus on meeting established KPI for the district cartage program.
- Liaison between product and cartage provider
- Prepare periodic reports and present such reports to branch management.
- Manage process of diversion to outside carriers as needed.
- Assist in developing new strategies for maintaining or improving quality-of-service.
- Manage process for documenting and communicating accessorial charges.
- Focus on increasing profit and minimizing costs.
- Exception management and resolve issues quickly.
- Daily tasks of dispatching and scheduling appointments.
- Coordinate daily activities with warehouse team.
- Serve as escalation path for operations when local PU/D challenges arise and communicate resolutions.
- Be a role model of integrity and pride for all employees.
- Update export files in ETMS with PRO numbers; delegate DG updates to agents.
- Assess feasibility of same-day shipment requests.
- Create Proxyclick visits for Cartage and GNS truck deliveries.
- Communicate driver details to customers.
- Maintain and organize the team mailbox.
- Provide daily shift reports to supervisor or manager
- Provide financial support by ensuring timely cost allocation and addressing any financial irregularities proactively
Dedicated Fleet Operations
- Works with service providers to insure efficient usage of equipment and drivers.
- Monitors and assist service provider in the control of variable cost.
- Responsible for proper coding and reporting of delays and exceptions.
- Rate audits & payables approval.
- Root cause analysis on service failures and develop corrective action as necessary.
- Provide costing and price support to product.
- Conduct quarterly service provider evaluations in support of the Service Provider Management Program.
Qualifications :
- 2 years transportation local PU/D distribution or related logistics experience preferred.
- Languages : fluent in Dutch and English good knowledge of French
- Good computer skills (Excel Word Outlook)
- Willing to work in shifts from 06:00H to 14:30H or from 10:30H to 19:00H
- Effective interpersonal skills including proven abilities to listen comprehend effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results.
- Strong facilitation and problem resolution
- Strong organizational skills ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
- Attention to detail and an ability to follow through with tasks.
- Drive for continuous improvements. Assist management in highlighting value of the relationship to the service provider as well as our branch.
