Position Summary
The Senior Manager Power Production Engineering leads and manages all engineering functions supporting the planning design installation and maintenance of Grant PUDs power generation facilities and dam infrastructure. This role provides strategic and technical leadership to ensure engineering services align with the operational and maintenance needs of Power Production.
Reporting to senior leadership this position is responsible for directing a high-performing engineering team managing multi-year budgets and capital plans and developing long-term goals and strategies. The Senior Manager plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability safety and efficiency of generation assets while supporting regulatory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Responsibilities

- Plans assigns trains and instructs the work of other professional engineering managers; prioritizes and allocates resources to achieve established strategies; utilizes resources to develop engineering standards performance standards guidelines and specifications; ensures resources are utilized appropriately and personnel are trained capable and qualified to execute work assigned; facilitates teams of subject matter experts to create and administer policies and procedures governing all aspects of Grant PUDs Power Production Engineering (PP Eng) tasks; make final decision on controversial engineering matters affecting critical aspects of Grant PUDs PP infrastructure; participate in Utility-wide strategic initiatives to develop implement and achieve business plans and initiatives to improve staffing retention.
- Resolve complex business issues relevant to PP Eng; establish good electric utility management practices and processes and ensure they are adopted by all staff and contractors; operate under limited guidance while weighing and evaluating multiple complex factors requiring a high degree of judgment analytical ability and problem solving; direct oversee and review budgets developed by Engineering Managers and various staff providing direction and guidance on future objectives and goals.
- Be an experienced knowledgeable resource for lower-level staff within the engineering department as well as other areas of Grant PUD; provide general guidance and training for non-subject matter experts; cultivate foster and maintain positive working relationships with managers supervisors employees and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support.
- Understand and adhere to relevant compliance requirements that may include national regional state or local laws regulations or security guidelines including Grant PUD policies and procedures.
- Ensure managers are developing and maintaining necessary department policies/standards and work procedures are documented and/or updated as necessary.
- Represent PUD interests by attendance at or representation in organizations related to power generation engineering such as CEATI NHA and NWHA
- Encourage a systems thinking culture with engineering managers to ensure awareness and support for all PUD business units including business advancement department budget and accounting safety plant maintenance plant operations and power delivery

- Ensuring that middle managers are actively supporting their teams in safety efforts such as continuous improvement teams Safety & Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) responsibilities hazard identification metric reporting and compliance etc.
Required Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications)
- Bachelors Degree in an engineering field or additional two years of experience in lieu of degree
- Eight (8) years of engineering experience or other relevant experience in power generation
- Two (2) years of experience as people leader or supervising multi-level technical team
Preferred Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications)
- A Washington State Professional Engineers License
- Hydroelectric dam experience
Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of concepts principles theories and methods surrounding electric utility engineering industry standards and best practices; staff development methods set to engage team members and promote meaningful performance improvements; project management tools and techniques; technical competencies with attention to detail; financial management philosophies and budgetary guidelines associated with managing large financial expenditures; asset management practices reliability centered maintenance principles protection design and construction principles and practices.
- Skill in exercising good judgement and making well informed decisions under pressure; written and oral interpersonal communication; identifying and analyzing potential problems with limited data and directing large teams of professionals to resolve issues; workflow and time management; utilizing Microsoft Suite office products.
