About San Francisco University High School

UHS is a coeducational independent day school in San Francisco situated in the vibrant Pacific Heights neighborhood. We serve 480 students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1975 our mission is to challenge each individual to live a life of integrity inquiry and purpose larger than the self.


The Opportunity

Were seeking a dedicated knowledgeable and visionary leader to serve as the Program Head and Varsity Head Coach for Baseball. Baseball is a flagship program at UHS with a proud tradition of excellence character development and team unity. This part-time seasonal role requires a true passion for the sport a deep commitment to educational-based athletics and a sincere interest in mentoring young athletes.

The Program Director will oversee all aspects of the 912 baseball program including Varsity and Junior Varsity levels and will be responsible for creating a cohesive inclusive and competitive environment that reflects the schools mission and values. This role includes active coaching during the spring season potential summer coaching opportunities and Fall Ball programming designed to support offseason development. The ideal candidate will bring high-level coaching experience a strong understanding of player and program development and a demonstrated ability to lead with integrity structure and enthusiasm.

This role requires close collaboration with the Athletic Department academic faculty families and community partners to ensure a meaningful mission-aligned experience for all student-athletes both on and off the field.


What Youll Do

  • Program Leadership: Lead all aspects of the University High School Baseball Program overseeing both Varsity and Junior Varsity levels in alignment with the schools mission and values.
  • Dynamic Training: Design and implement practice plans that include skill development team strategy strength and conditioning and sport-specific training cycles.
  • Player Mentorship: Provide individualized instruction and mentorship to student-athletes of varying skill levels and experience.
  • Match Day Operations: Coordinate and manage game-day operations including lineups in-game adjustments travel logistics and post-game communication.
  • Culture & Values: Foster and sustain a positive team culture centered on discipline effort inclusion sportsmanship and mutual respect.
  • Student Wellness: Monitor the academic progress physical health and emotional well-being of student-athletes throughout the season.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the lead communicator with families athletic training staff sports performance coaches and athletic administration.
  • Compliance: Ensure full adherence to all University High School Bay Counties League - West (BCL-W) Bay Area Conference (BAC) North Coast Section (NCS) and CIF policies and regulations.
  • Offseason Development: Plan and facilitate Fall Ball and possible summer development opportunities for program continuity and offseason growth.
  • Coaching Supervision: Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and oversee the alignment of the JV team with Varsity standards and goals.
  • Equipment Management: Coordinate inventory uniform/equipment distribution and collection and work with approved vendors to organize spirit packs and team apparel.
  • Program Representation: Represent the program at required athletic department functions including seasonal meetings parent orientations league meetings and community engagement events.
Requirements

Who You Are

  • Experienced Leader: You have a minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the secondary collegiate or elite club level with demonstrated success leading a comprehensive baseball program.
  • Baseball Expert: You possess deep knowledge of baseball fundamentals game strategy training periodization and player development.
  • Skilled Communicator: You exhibit strong leadership organizational interpersonal and communication abilities with the ability to mentor athletes and guide coaching staff in a collaborative team environment.
  • Certified (or Ready To Be): You hold or are willing to obtain current CPR and First Aid certifications prior to the season. You are also willing to complete all CIF/NCS-required coaching certifications.
  • On-Field Background (Preferred): Collegiate playing experience or equivalent competitive background is preferred.

Compensation

This is a seasonal part-time position with a compensation range of $10000 $15000. This includes responsibilities during Fall Ball the spring competitive season and potential summer coaching opportunities.
