Permit Coordinators in the Merit System plan direct and coordinate the plans review and permit application process for commercial multi-family and other projects that require permits. Employees in this job class manage the building construction application approval process by issuing permits accepting plans submitted and processing plans and fees. Permit Coordinators also maintain the online permitting application and tracking systems by coordinating improvements and upkeep of information systems databases scanning and imaging systems. Permit Coordinators route and track plans and documents to various departments and outside agencies for required reviews and clearance. Permit Coordinators have extensive knowledge of building codes and construction and an understanding of surveys site plans and architectural plans. Permit Coordinators work almost exclusively in an office setting using standard office equipment (e.g. computer phone copier etc.) and have no supervisory responsibilities.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Experience using computer software for the purpose of organizing and tracking records files and documents in databases.
Experience retaining records that requires adherence to policies procedures or legal guidelines outlining the handling storage and destruction of records.
Experience assisting customers.
Experience conducting research for the purpose of gathering information from various sources including but not limited to internet websites historical/archived documents and information etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the hiring agencies. These qualifications may be considered by the hiring agencies when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Experience with electronic permitting systems to digitally process and maintain permits (e.g. Accela Cityworks Citizenserve).
International Code Council Permit Technician Certification.
Experience working with plats surveys site plans architectural plans or subdivisions.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
Coordinates the routing and tracking of plans and documents to various departments and outside agencies for required reviews and clearances to ensure timely processing of plans permits and applications.
Maintains the online permitting applications and tracking systems by using plans tracking software coordinating improvement and upkeep of information systems databases scanning and imaging systems to ensure efficient processing approval and storage of plans.
Develops and modifies existing workflow procedures to coordinate efforts among other department sections to ensure uniform adoption and application of adopted codes and standards.
Tabulates payments for permits and development impact fees to ensure payment amount is accurate.
Answers code questions from general public and contractors about submitting plans fee schedules and regulations to keep all parties properly informed.
Creates standard operating procedures for processing all types of permits and monitors work of staff to ensure compliance.
Manages records by organizing repository storing records and retrieves plans from permanent storage as necessary to ensure efficient processing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time but may also involve periodic sustained physical activity such as walking standing or stooping. Work may involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
