Job Description

If you are a highly organised and detail-oriented Litigation Secretary with specialisation in medical negligence matters we invite you to join a leading South African law firm in Cape Town. You will support attorneys in all aspects of litigation ensuring efficient case management and smooth administration within the department.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Typing and formatting legal documents correspondence and court pleadings related to medical negligence claims
  • Managing case files including opening closing and archiving files
  • Drafting medico-legal briefs notices and indexing bundles for court
  • Handling diary management including scheduling consultations court dates and medico-legal appointments
  • Liaising with clients counsel medical experts and court personnel
  • Maintaining electronic and physical filing systems in accordance with firm standards
  • Monitoring litigation processes including filing and serving documents within prescribed timeframes
  • Billing capturing timesheets and assisting with fee reconciliations
  • Conducting follow-ups on medical records expert reports and other supporting documentation
Requirements:
  • Matric (Grade 12) and a recognised secretarial or paralegal diploma/certificate
  • Minimum 35 years experience as a litigation secretary with specific exposure to medical negligence cases
  • Strong understanding of High Court procedures and terminology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software (e.g. AJS / LegalSuite / GhostPractice)
  • Excellent typing speed and accuracy (minimum 60 wpm)
  • High attention to detail strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively under pressure
  • Professional communication skills both verbal and written
  • Discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive and confidential information
Advantageous:
  • Experience working in a medico-legal or personal injury law firm
  • Familiarity with RAF and HPCSA procedures
The proposed salary for the role is R20k - R25k per month but the option remains with the client to offer any market related salary considering the candidates qualifications skills and experience.
