Johannesburg (Office-Based) Travel to various sites asrequired Mining & Process Plant Construction Focus.

Were looking for an experienced and highly capable Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full ownership of the financial and contractual aspects of large-scale construction projects within the mining and mineral processing sector.

This standalone senior role requires someone who is confident working independently across multiple projects with the ability to manage cost contracts procurement and construction risks while maintaining strong engagement with both office and site-based teams.

Role Purpose

The successful candidate will oversee the end-to-end cost and contract management of mining infrastructure and process plant construction projects. This includes everything from estimating and budgeting to monitoring expenditures managing subcontractor procurement ensuring cost efficiency and contract compliance across disciplines such as:

• Earthworks and civil construction
• Structural steel mechanical equipment and pipework installation
• Electrical and instrumentation (EC&I) installation

Key Responsibilities

Cost Management

• Prepare detailed estimates cost plans and project budgets
• Monitor costs and track project expenditure against forecasts
• Identify and respond to cost variations throughout the project lifecycle

Contract Administration

• Support negotiation and review of contracts
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and manage change orders
• Handle contract disputes variations and claims

Procurement & Adjudication

• Support tender processes and evaluation of subcontractor bids
• Recommend supplier and service provider selections

Risk Management

• Identify cost and contract-related risks and propose mitigation strategies
• Advise on cost-effective problem-solving during execution

Site Support

• Conduct regular site visits for progress and quality inspections
• Ensure alignment with design cost and schedule expectations

Reporting & Documentation

• Provide regular project reports and cost summaries to senior management
• Maintain accurate records of all contractual and cost-related activities

Minimum Requirements

• Qualification in Quantity Surveying (Bachelors Degree preferred)
• 10 years plus in quantity surveying experience in mining/process plant construction
• Proficiency in QS software and MS Office (Excel Word)
• Must be able to pass medicals required for mine access

You Bring:

• In-depth knowledge of construction cost control and project budgeting
• Practical understanding of FIDIC NEC and other standard contract forms
• Strong working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996)
• Excellent planning analysis and negotiation skills
• Confidence managing multiple complex projects independently
• A proactive mindset and willingness to travel to remote project sites as needed

Budget Responsibility

• Responsible for managing a key component of the overall project budget
