  • Environmental Planning Officer - Hunter
  • Package includes salary $110266 p.a. - $122958 p.a. plus employers contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Temporary Full-time Clerk Grade 7-8 role up until 30 June 2026
  • Located in Newcastle (location negotiable)

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for an Environmental Planning Officer 7/8 to support the delivery of the infrastructure projects in the Hunter Central Coast (Newcastle) branch.

As the Environmental Planning Officer you will support the Assets and Infrastructure team with the delivery of projects intended to replace damaged assets post major flood event build resilience against future natural disasters (flooding and fire) with a focus on roads bridges landslips drainage and associated road transport infrastructure as well as visitor assets such as walking tracks.

This position will be responsible for supporting the team on the environmental approvals pathway for specific projects preparing environmental assessments liaising with operational staff including Rangers and environmental contractors and supporting Project Officers through the construction process for environmental auditing and ensuring environmental conditions of approval are meet. The role may also be required to advise on Historic Heritage Aboriginal Heritage Fisheries or other approval pathways where relevant.

The role will be required to prepare Review of Environmental Factors (REFs) advise on conditions and mitigation measures prepare determination notices review consultant REFs and documentations and supporting projects to comply with approval notices consistent with NPWS legislation and policies. The role will need to have skills in mapping and use of a range of databasis.

You will l be required to liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery of projects as relates to the environmental (including aboriginal including project reporting monitoring of project budgets resourcing stakeholder engagement contract administration and procurement.

About you

Your passion for environment community a proficiency in project management strong attention to detail and a well-developed knowledge of environment planning and assessment will be key to your success in this role.

Youll be adept in providing and translating high level advice and information to various stakeholder groups on environmental considerations relating to construction and infrastructure works support project reviews to update status risk and emerging environmental or project related issues. The role will work closely with infrastructure Project Officers to ensure delivery of projects in line with established plans budgets timeframes policy and environmental objectives.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in Environmental planning and assessment and environmental management.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Current Australian drivers licence
