The Information Technology (IT) Division of Stellenbosch University (SU) needs a Lead Data Architect who is user-centric has strong data knowledge problem-solving and design thinking abilities with a diverse knowledge across IT to assist the University in modernising and sustaining their current ICT data landscape. Knowledge of the higher education landscape or architecture would be an advantage. The incumbent will work closely with institutional stakeholders as part of the ICT function to understand their needs and objectives to realise value to the institution by defining and implementing fitting solutions.
The role of the Lead Data Architect is to expand the institutions responsible use of data as a strategic enabler by strategically designing developing and implementing data principles models patterns and best practices for each value stream aligned to the institutional strategy and goals. These principles models patterns and best practices will be designed at the various architecture layers of the ICT Architecture.
For the ICT Architecture Practice the Lead Data Architect will be involved in maturing the architecture practice community and framework (purpose standards and resources) to ensure the practice remains relevant adapts to demand timeously and is seen as a strategic capability for the University.
Duties/Pligte
Establishing data architecture framework standards and practice
Developing and delivering short and long-term strategic goals for data architecture (across all the layers and domains) vision and standards aligned to the institutional and individual responsibility centre goals.
Ensuring that data strategies and architectures (including management tools and standards) comply to internal governance and regulatory requirements and are promoted within the University.
Facilitating implementation of data architecture framework standards and practice
Conducting data capacity planning life cycle duration usage requirements and feasibility studies.
Creating short-term tactical solutions (aligned to the practice Division business owner or University) for data architecture to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.
Overseeing the mapping (current and target) of data sources data movement interfaces and analytics with the goal of ensuring data quality and opportunities of reuse migration and/or refinement.
Leading brainstorming sessions to develop potential data architecture solutions for business and/or institutional needs gaps requirements or strategic initiatives.
Analysis and reporting
Analysing and reporting on the data architecture industry and technology trends by supplying guidance on how it will impact the institutional opportunities as well as risks.
Collaborating with institutional stakeholders
Engaging with stakeholders through clear communication appropriate levels of context and explanation.
Collaborating across the University (including but not limited to projects and initiatives) by assisting with data-related deliverables problems regarding integration compatibility and multiple-platform integration.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
Bachelors degree in computer science information systems or a relevant field.
At leastfiveyears or more work experience in data architecture with the appropriate certifications and experience in developing reference architectures principles and standardsORat least ten years or more work experience as a data analyst with experience in reference architectures principles and standards.
More than five years experience in leading teams.
Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills to coordinate projects and deliverables across IT and business.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrable ability to evaluate options and apply them to complex institutional problems.
Flexible in a fast-paced dynamic environment with shifting roles and responsibilities.
Knowledge of data architecture frameworks and standards.
Experience in Agile or other delivery methodologies.
A broad understanding of information technology topics and trends.
