Job Description

The Lead Cargo Handler oversees daily cargo handling operations ensuring the safe efficient and timely loading unloading and movement of freight. This role serves as the main point of contact for cargo handlers during shifts providing leadership coordination and support to maintain high operational standards and compliance with safety regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide cargo handling team during loading/unloading of freight.
  • Delegate tasks and monitor staff performance to meet productivity and quality goals.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment such as forklifts pallet jacks and conveyor belts.
  • Inspect cargo for damage proper labeling and compliance with shipping documentation.
  • Coordinate with warehouse supervisors logistics teams and drivers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Train new employees on cargo handling procedures safety protocols and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments inventory and cargo movement.
  • Enforce compliance with OSHA TSA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a clean organized and safe working environment.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A self-starter is required must be able to work effectively with minimal to no supervision.
  • Prior warehouse experience with Fork-lift driving knowledge is mandatory.
  • Prior min. 3 or more years of warehouse experience with cargo/freight handling is preferred.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety procedures.
  • Understands and utilizes safe lifting procedures and step stools.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos; ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to read speak and understand English.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situationsto customers client and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be comfortable learning computerized transactions using SmartKargo or other software.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets Amerijets insurance standards.
  • Able to obtain SIDA badge.
  • Willingness to work 8-hr shift covering 24/7.
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment: fast pace loud hot or chill.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Identification of HAZMAT Materials and knowledge of proper handling (Preferably).
  • Prior customer service and conflict resolution experience is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will not have direct reports but may require providing training for new team members.

Language Skills:

The employee must possess good interpersonal and communications skills be able to effectively present information respond to questions from managers and co-workers.

Physical Activities and Requirements of the Position:

The employee is regularly required to stand frequently required walk use hand to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; talk and hear.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Required to work in confined spaces.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; move about the facility.

Must be able to work well under pressure. Domestic/International travel is negligible and overtime is required when necessary.
