Job Description

Role Type: Volunteer
Schedule: Currently Tuesdays and every other Monday 9:00 AM12:00 PM (subject to change)
Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer position

Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA youth aged 16-29 through mental health services social programs and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre offering barrier-free counselling hot meals and community programming and a Transitional Home providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

What Youll Do:

As a Grocery Volunteer youll work alongside staff to shop for and deliver groceries that support meals and programming at our Youth Centre and Transitional Home. Your help directly contributes to food security for 2SLGBTQIA youth in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shop for groceries based on a weekly list.
  • Choose cost-effective quality items.
  • Help load groceries into a vehicle (Uber or staff vehicle all costs covered).
  • Deliver groceries to the Youth Centre and/or Transitional Home.
  • Assist with unloading organizing and sorting groceries upon arrival.

What Were Looking For:

  • Comfortable navigating grocery stores and walking/standing for periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry items up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Committed to social justice anti-racism harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
  • Available Tuesdays and/or every other Monday from 9:00 AM12:00 PM.

Note: You will always be accompanied by a Friends of Ruby staff member and are never expected to cover any expenses.
