Job Description
Position: Volunteer Data Squad
Type: Volunteer
Schedule: Part-time unpaid 3hour shifts. Some evening / weekend work may be required
Time Commitment: minimum 20 hours during the fiscal year (July 1-June 30)
Location: Ohio History Center
Reports to: Manager Audience Insights
Summary:
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers that enjoy interacting with the public. Volunteers collect visitor feedback on our exhibits programs and experiences. Through surveying and interviewing volunteers will have a chance to share valuable feedback to continually improve our experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Approach visitors for data collection (surveying or interviews)
- Carry out evaluation projects accurately and according to the direction and protocols established through training.
- Establish rapport with a wide variety of visitors while asking questions in a consistent manner
- Accurately record guest feedback
Education and/or Experience:
Volunteers are given a full training in evaluation techniques before they start. They are also offered continuous support and additional training throughout to ensure you are confident in your role
Physical Demands:
- May require extensive periods of standing
- May involve shifts that are outside
- May require moving/carrying survey material
Education and Experience Outcomes:
- Will learn about data collection techniques
- Will learn to work within a team environment
- Will learn about aspects of visitor/hospitality services through training and on-the-job experience
- Will gain an understanding of the inner workings of a non-profit museum
- Knowledge of museum best practices and procedures.
- Understand the value and vital role of evaluation in a museum setting.
